Definitely a touristy area. Lots of little ice cream shops. We stopped at Berthillon. The ice cream was small but North American standards, but yummy and worth the wait for me. I had the salted carmel and I found the size perfect but expensive. Would...More

This is technically the newest island - created out of two old ones - Cow Island being one. It was the first area in the city to utilize a grid as a layout - still evident today on the island. Some of the older mansions...More

A quieter area in Paris with lovely restaurants and shops. We stayed a block away from Notre Dame in a beautiful apartment built in the 1500s with the quaintest restaurant next door and tavern 2 doors down. It was central enough to go to many...More

This is a lovely little island on the river. The atmosphere on the island's street is by far quieter than in the rest of the city. Recommended for an afternoon stroll and a short coffee break.

Around the back of the busy Notre Dame the quiet street leads to the bridge over to Ile Saint-Louis. It is much quieter over here, with good views from the bridges and quaint streets to wander down. Take a short cut this way to get...More

Of the two city islands in the Seine, the day we visited, this seemed to be the more relaxed. Gulls sang, a street musician played and the excellent Berthillon ice cream right at the bridge was indeed excellent.

Do make an effort to stroll down Ile Saint Louis. I is perhaps the most beautiful and quiet corner of Paris…with the added bonus that it has excellent restaurants...

Close to access to any and all of classic Paris's haunts you wish for but like living in a village space that some days you don't have to leave the island to take part in the City.

We stayed here and found it to be less touristy and pleasant. Always looked forward to returning to our apt on the Ile at the end of the day!

Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very
heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité,
sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of
Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the
site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held
before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic
Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the
Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island,
