Some urban renewal many years ago spoiled the harmony of the architecture, somewhat. It remains a beautiful spot with Louis on a horse in the middle. The lovely old buildings now house expensive designer clothes shops. You are close to the covered passages.

The equestrian statue of Louis XIV dominates the square. The Sun King is depicted in the garg of a Roman emperor fresh from military wins in Europe. The original statue came down during the French Revolution. This version dates from 1822, based on one of Czar Peter the Great in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

These days it is just a giant roundabout, for traffic, however the surrounding buildings and the centre piece statue of Statue de Louis XIV, makes it pleasing to the eye.

The high end designer clothing shops have been replaced for the most part by high end furniture and home goods. The architecture and harmony of this square are superb, partially marred by Haussmann's insertion of the boulevard. Lots of places to eat around.

This very busy square (to vehicle traffic), is located at the intersection of 6 roads, the centre piece being the monument to, King Louis XIV, (riding a horse rely the only thing of interest for visitors to see .

You may pass cross this square with the statue of Louis XIV - or you may not!

It is of course in line with its surroundings - very elegant, posh and thus also slightly boring! Not a single café or bench, and even the shops seems to have deserted the area.

It is a nice feature if you are in the neighbourhood - especially because of the architecture of the buildings, and the impressive lamp posts - but do not take a detour for this!

We returned to admire the architecture and on our way to the Palais Royal. I know many people criticize the lack of complete harmony, but to me it's just lovely and very much worth your visit.

This circular place sits on the boundary of the 1st and 2nd Arrondissements and has six street flowing into it. In the centre of the Place is a large equestrian statue of King Louis XIV. We walked past it on a number of ocassions.

The Place was designed by the Royal Architect at the time, Jules Mansart, who was also responsible for the design of the Place Vendome. The design incorporated unified facades on the buildings. The buildings and the Place were completed in the second half of the 17th century.

Today the surrounding area is fairly upmarket and there are several fashion designers who occupy the ground floor shop fronts.

A square in the middle of old Paris with a statue of Louis in the middle. The redesign with a new street running through it destroyed the harmony, but it is still grand. Full of designer shops.

This Louis the XIVth Royal Place is very elegant for it"s architecture and fashion shops. Half way between les Halles / Montorgueil area and the Opéra Garnier, you will stroll next to Galerie Vivienne, Jardins du Palais Royal, passing through the authentic Japanese restaurants in Paris. On your right going towards the Bourse, find Bistrot Chez Georges, on you left head to the Louvre. On avenue de L'Opéra indulge on some Pierre Hermé sweet delicacies. Not far from Place Vendôme, Jewelers, fashion, Chocolate shops.... This Place des Victoires is very well located. Can tell you more about its History on PM if you are interested
