This charming narrow thoroughfare runs east to west through the small Ile Saint Louis and serves as the island's main street. I find it a great place to stroll after visiting Notre Dame Cathedral, about a 5-minute walk away. Restaurants, cafes, boutiques, art galleries and small shops beckon. I especially like Pylones, a French gift-store chain, which features bright colors... More

Half my family is French, I've known Paris all my life and can honestly say this trip felt like we lived there too. We couldn't have had a warmer welcome from Jenn, and the location is superb - we walked miles in both directions, found world famous ice cream in our street, ate the best croissants I've ever eaten (and... Île Saint-Louis is the smaller of the two islands in the centre of Paris. It is located in the historical centre of the city and is a great place for a walk full of surprises. Stroll along the main road, Rue Saint-Louis en l'Île, or go around the island along the quays. Visitors can admire the numerous former private mansion... More

No one can truly experience Paris without a quick detour here. As the main street on the island, there's plenty of cute little shops, restaurants, bars, cafés and Berthillon ice cream ;) Ah Paris :)

The central street, going from east to the west of the island, is a nice area with many historic sites, nice shops and good restaurants. Of course there is no shortage of tourists here, but the street is charming and friendly place, worth spending your time here.

The Rue Saint Louis en L'ile is a lovely place to visit. This island is right in the middle of Paris and has loads of history and culture to experience. This particular street has loads of restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, etc that make it a wonderful place to walk around (slowly) in and savour every moment. Highly recommended!

This beautiful shop and café lined street running the length of Ile St. Louis is a wonderful part of historic, central Paris. I love the art galleries.

We went to London for a family wedding so planned a quick trip to Paris. We booked our accommodation through airBnB and got a tiny flat on I'le St Louis. (There are lots of apartments to rent on both I'le St Louis and I'le de la Cite and they are all tiny but comfortable) It was a great location, central... More

This is a lovely place to take a nice, relaxing stroll if you're temporarily maxed out on sight seeing. It's lined with lovely shops and if you're not careful you can gain a couple of pounds (or kg) as you walk from one end to other. Be sure and take a break at the lovely church -- Eglise Saint-Louis-en-I'lle.

It is an attractive street that you can take when crossing between the right and the left river Seine, across the Ile Saint Louis. You can also reach it coming from Notre Dame cathedral. It is an old street with a lot of small shops and restaurants. The atmosphere is warm and friendly. But and because of that, it has... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
