This church is near Notre Dame, yet much less visited, it has a quiet ambience. Located at the place of St. Gervais, this magnificent church was THE basilica of the right bank when first built in the IVth century; its current version dates from the...More

Monastic orders and convents have been declining for decades in France. This community represents the future. Once called the Lion of Judah and the Immolated Lamb, they wisely took a more manageable name. They have two divisions, one men and one women, who work together....More

After coming out of Notre Dame with its background hubbub, it was nice to go into a church with complete silence. We had entered through the rear entrance which was not easy to find, and were surprised to come out at the West end on...More

Go to the 11 AM Sunday mass here. You won't be disappointed. Great organ playing and a congregation who sings the mass. Not being Catholic nor French detracts from the beauty and sanctity of the services here.

We found this church by accident and is not as well known as other cathedrals but certainly very calm and worthwhile visit.

One of my favorite places in Paris. Go at 6 pm for the evening vespers (which are I think from Wed to Saturday). The Vespers are sung by a group of nuns clothes in white, and if the sun is out, streams through the stained...More

We ducked into St-Gervais-St-Protais Church (shortly called ‘Saint Gervais’) to escape a sudden rain shower while strolling around a flea market in the Marais neighbourhood. Once inside, we were so taken by its interior that we bought an informative leaflet available at the back (0.50...More

Paris has no shortage of beautiful cathedrals to wander about, but each offers something special and this was no different. Archeticture buffs will appreciate the beautifully carved church dating back over 5oo years while people in search of history could spend a long time going...More

This church was begun about 1648 and has gorgeous stained glass windows added over the centuries. The church was bombed in WW1 on Good Friday so there were several new windows after that. You will be delighted by the vaulted ceiling.
