Neighbourhood: Les Halles
Historically the central iron-clad market of Paris, Les Halles has evolved architecturally since then but the pulsating energy has stayed the same. Now it houses the main shopping mall, which nestles underground surrounded by fast-food take-aways and international restaurants coupled with beautiful churches and the old commodity exchange. Parallel to it are the high-street stores of Rue de Rivoli and just parallel to that the Seine. The area bustles with faces from all continents and all ages at all times of the day. If enjoying high-street shopping with easy access to fast eateries and lively bars is on your agenda, this is the place to go.

One of my favourite buildings in Paris! Amazing Gothic Architecture, this church was constructed in the 1st arrondissement of Paris between 15th and 16th century.
The exterior looks like a fairy tale building coming to life, from a Hollywood rapunzel movie. Interior is equally impressive with amazing designs on the roof as well as on the side windows and doors.
The external surrounding gardens, is the perfect place for a picnic on a sunny day, enjoying the view of this incredible building. A must visit!

Saint Eustache church stands out in the Halles district where Paris central market used to be located. The tower less church is very famous for its organs and its acoustics. Berlioz directed the premiere of its Te Deum in Saint Eustache. Many historical recordings of organ music were made there. This church has witnessed many events in French history: Jean Baptiste Colbert, finance minister of Louis the XIV is buried there, Cardinal Richelieu was baptized here, so was Moliere, and Mozart’s mother funeral took place here. Unfortunately, this beautiful building which was the site of so many historical events is very poorly maintained. But even though the present condition of Saint Eustache is a real disgrace, it is worth a visit.

The Eglise Saint-Eustache in the heart of Les Halles is one of the most visited churches in Paris.
Very easy to get from the metro, great area to walk around, take photos and explore.
It is known for its unusually large dimensions, which make it seem more like a cathedral than a church, and the wealth of art works it houses.
The church was built in 1532 and subsequently restored in 1840, and therefore uses a variety of styles: the façade is Gothic, while the interior is in the Renaissance and classical styles.
The organ of Saint-Eustache is the biggest pipe organ in France, and its resident organist gives a free concert on Sunday afternoons.
In keeping with its longstanding tradition of classical music, the church hosts performances all year round by symphony orchestras and choral ensembles such as Chœurs de Radio France and the Orchestre National de France; its concerts feature on the programme of prestigious festivals like the Festival d’Automne à Paris and Paris Quartier d’Été.

This is one of the churches that few people know about. It is a massive Gothic structure. It is located in central Paris near the market of Les Halles
Construction started in 1532 and was completed in 1637. For the age of the church it is not in bad condition. However the years have worn it down around the edges.
I was amazed with the size and even more with the pictures that are in the church.

While strolling through the center of Paris on a Sunday morning, we happened to witness a beautiful Sunday mass in this stunning catholic church with a renaissance interior. The translucent light streaming through the stained glass windows had a total ethereal effect, no wonder the 2019 Easter Mass at Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris was relocated to Saint-Eustache after the Notre-Dame de Paris fire. Louis XIV had his First Communion here in 1649, Cardinal Richelieu, Madame de Pompadour and Molière were all baptized here and Mozart held his mother's funeral here. Part of the west façade including the unfinished tower is covered by scaffolding, presumably getting spruced up for the 2024 Olympics. Free entry.

Wow, this is a big church. We happened upon it on a walk back from Le Marais. The architecture is quite unique and the art inside is something to behold. There is Pieta and an ornate alter. But, unless you are paying attention you will miss the piece tucked upfront on a side alter. A beautifully restore Peter Paul Ruebens painting.

I came to the grave of the contemporary artist Keith Haring. He said that because he died of AIDS, no other church would accept his funeral, but only this church, Saint-Eustache, did. He had a history like that and there is a grave in the church.
As with all European churches, there is a sense of security when you go inside that something is protected. We also relaxed, sitting on the bench.

There is some exterior construction work being done but enough is visible to appreciate its fine architecture. The church has its roots in the 13th century. Admire the flying buttresses and the gargoyles. Saint Eustace was a Roman general who converted to Christianity.

It is a huge church, with ceilings so high that one can only admire the architectural prowess.
Paris may be the city with the greatest number of beautiful churches in the world.
But make no mistake, it is impossible to point to one church or cathedral and declare that this one is the most beautiful.
Which one would it be?
St. Peter in the Vatican? St. Paul in London? Seville Cathedral? El Duomo in Milan? La Mesquita in Cordoba?
There are too many magnificent cathedrals. But in Paris, there are so many incredibly beautiful churches that wherever you throw a stone, you will find one (and you can't see them all).
And Saint-Eustache is just one of them.
Btw, unlike in other countries (like Spain), there is no entrance fee in Paris churches.

This is a very large cathedral, about the same size as Notre Dame, but built as the parish church for this neighborhood, which is Les Halles area, famous for the central market. Famous food market people are buried here. It's a charming church.

It is amazing but there is no admission fee. Enjoy the beauty of this old building.
There is also No admission to Notre Dame Cathedral or the other beautiful churches in Paris. They might have a donations box or something like thaat.
