L'eglise Saint Medard, is located at the foot of the cobblestoned Rue Mouffetard. While this is the principal entrance, there is an alternative one from the Rue Daubenton. Originally dating to circa 1163, this relatively small Roman Catholic church has beautiful architecture, paintings, sculpture, a grand organ and stained glass windows. The main entrance faces a small square which adds to the charm of this little Gem.

At the very bottom of the lengthy Rue Moufetard, Saint Medard is an attractive mixture of late gothic and early classical styles which surprising work beautifully together. It's not huge, but it feels like a much loved neighbourhood church, and so has a quality of the 'real Paris' about it.
A peaceful place for pause after working your way down the busy Rue Moufetard and it's good to sit here and contemplate for a while.

We went to the public dancing in the square outside the church on Sundays, which was fun. Went inside after the Mass ended.

From point of view of someone not taking part in the Mass, there's nothing special here. Many other Parisian churches, even if off the regular tourist path, have unique elements worth a visit. This one, not so much.

A wonderful small church from the twelfth century just at the extreme end of rue Mouffetard. Nice ambiance, nice altar, worth the visit.

After visiting the cobble stoned Rue Mouffetard open-air market in one of Paris's oldest and liveliest neighborhoods, we crossed over by the pretty little Guy Lartigue fountain to enter the grounds of the local parish Church of Saint-Médard, with its children’s playground and shaded park benches’. L'eglise Saint Medard is a 15th Century roman catholic church which over the years has had various styles of architecture from Classical, Renaissance even Gothic, added to it. If you go inside please check out the contemporary stained-glass windows, grand organ, unusual Doric columns and Italian painter Francisco Zurbaran famous painting.

TIP: The Church is closed Monday through Saturday from noon until 3 p.m.,

This church has anchored rue Mouffetard on its southern end since it went up in the 17th century. I often go by the structure at noon when I visit the area and cannot enter because it is closed Monday through Saturday from noon until 3 p.m. On my most recent visit to Paris, however, I got there in mid-morning and went into the mostly Gothic-style church.

I don't consider Eglise St-Medard to be in the top tier of the numerous Paris churches that really stand out, but it is well maintained and has some nice artwork, including "Walk of St. Joseph and the Child Jesus" by Zurbaran. Gobelins tapestry and the earlier era and contemporary stained-glass windows are also worth a look. Carved capitals indicate additions to the church through the centuries. I could see Gothic, Renaissance and Classical styles when looking at them.

For those interested in visiting churches, Eglise St-Medard would make a nice stop when exploring the rue Mouffetard Market (Tuesday through Sunday) or the outdoor market at nearby Place Monge (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday). If the church is closed, there is a pleasant square with benches and a small children's playground on its south side. This is a good place for a respite and to look at the church exterior.

Eglise St-Medard is open Monday through Saturday 8 a.m.-noon and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Sunday, 9 to noon and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m..

Once the home to a bizarre cult, this was normally just a parish church in a very old working class neighborhood. Now a focal point to a market area and a busy part of the city, cool area.

It was sunday when we were in the church and a service was going on so we couldn't walking around in the church. It's a big church with a lots of stained windows. We took a moment sitting in the church after wandering around the market street.

I have to say it is another nice church and it's really hard to compare once you have seen so many churches in Paris. It is quiet with almost nobody inside apart from 1 other person while I was there. If you are in the area, it would be nice to make a quick look around.

If you are thinking of exploring the delights of the rue Mouffetard in Paris then you could do worse than start in this church at the bottom of the hill near Les Gobelins. Its late Gothic nave fits remarkably well with those marvellous and unusual Doric clumns of the remodelled eighteenth century choir.
