St-Pierre-de-Montmartre is a Romanesque styled one of the oldest surviving churches located on the north side of the Sacré-Coeur. It was the church of the Abbaye des Dames de Montmartre, an abbey founded in 1133 by Queen Adelaide de Savoie and King Louis VI. The...More

Located next to Sacre-Coeur, this church plays an obvious second fiddle to its more famous neighbor; this is partly inevitable and also partly a shame, as there is much here to appreciate. Various parts of the church trace their lineage back to a 12th Century...More

This is the quite older sister to Sacre Coeur. But it's worth a visit with a special atmosphere and without as many tourists. Not fancy or fussy but worth a visit.

An interesting little church just beside the Sacré-Coeur. The entrance is not easy to find: when you exit the Sacré-Coeur, you have to go around, like you would go to the place du Tertre. It's very quite and peaceful, and so very old ! One...More

If one is already visiting Montmartre, it would be a pity not to enter St. Pierre. The church is a mere few steps away from Sacre Coeur from one side and Place de Tertre on the other side, so there's no excuse not to peek...More

This old church at the top of Montmartre is the one that the locals attend. The history of a church at this site apparently goes back to the third century, and St Ignatius Loyola apparently took some vows here. The building is Romanesque with heavy...More

We literally stumbled across this church on a night out in Montmartre, while strolling around the area after dinner. We had never even heard of this church and just felt drawn in by it when passing by. And we didn't regret it! There was hardly...More

The Church of Saint Peter of Montmartre is one of the oldest surviving churches in Paris, but the lesser known of the two main churches in Montmartre, the other being the more famous 19th-century Sacre Cœur Basilica. While we were strolling up to Sacre Coeur...More

Montmartre is a bustling mix of cultures, colours, and
styles which changes from one street to another. Ride
the funicular (or, for a real workout, climb the
steps) to the sublime Sacré-Coeur (Basilica of the
Sacred Heart) with its inspiring view of the city. The
church is surrounded by provincial streets and piano
bars where tourists, artists, and street entertainers
thrive. At the foot of the hill, Boulevard de Clichy
