A trip to the Palais Garnier, whether to see the opera, the ballet, or simply take a tour, is an absolute must. I went on a whim, and it was one of the best things I did in my 3 months in Paris. The building is absolutely stunning and definitely worth a trip.

We recently booked a guided tour of Palais Garnier with the Paris Tourist Office. We arrived at 2 o'clock to find at least 50 grade school children in the rotunda all talking at the same time, which kids will do. Very very noisy! We asked our guide if he could find a quieter place to make his presentation. He refused so kept talking over the noise. We heard nothing. Way too much static information in the beginning. Would have been better to start the tour and incorporate the history and the information as we walked . We just wanted to see the beautiful building! Ended up staying with the group 10 minutes and, still not hearing anything, abandoned and did the tour on our own. Much better. Sad that Nicolas was so into following the rules that he couldn't have been more supple and helped make the tour more agreeable for his clients! The tourist office also could have staggered the groups so not everyone started at the same time. VERY disappointing!…

We were so looking forward to an evening of ballet at the Palais Garnier, but it was cancelled due to the national strikes. We did visit the exterior. What a beautiful opera house. We walked around its block, maybe twice. A true monument and beautiful architecture. We must return to see the interior and a performance within. Such is life.…
