Side street find. Quiet and unassuming.
When you get inside you will be overwhelmed with the quality of the butter cookies, croissant and pain au chocolate.

Some of the best you will find in Paris

If you are staying in the 6th (or even passing through), this boulangerie is worth the wait in line. Buy the loaf with currant, baguette and tarte au pomme. Take a deep breathe in with your eyes closed once you step inside. You'll swoon.

We stopped here on a food tour, and I had to come back. The lovely woman greeted me and tried her best to accommodate my English. I had a coffee and 2 pastries (I couldn’t choose between the chocolate croissant and the turnover with applesauce- the applesauce was my favorite one!) and had the bread with some cheeses and meats during my tour. Wish i could come back again!

Really wonderful bakery - the bread is famous throughout the world, but don't miss the shortbread cookies as well. Next door to the Boulangerie is Poilane's shop that sells open-faced sandwiches, worth the wait.

I recently visited Paris with my friend and she recommended us to get a lovely pastry from Poilane. Whilst we waited to be served, I was shocked to get the paper bag (with no pastry inside) that I was holding snatched out of my hand and was reprimanded in front of everyone in the store. Even after waiting for another 5 minutes with no service, I decided to leave such a rude place. No matter how famous you are, if your service is so terrible, I would never return again. They clearly do not like tourists!

We stopped here on a Paris Walks Cafe Tour and the guide pointed out the delicious pastry in the window - chausson aux pommes (literally - apple slipper). My husband and I shared one and now it is my favorite pastry in France. We tried it elsewhere, but the best is at Poilane!

I'm besotted with their bread. I lived upstairs for two weeks and could not resist almost daily visits. Fortunately, I had to climb 36 steps to retrieve my goodies. Many restaurants in the 6th arrondissement highlight on their menus that they use Poilane bread, it's that delicious. They have a small cafe next to the Cherche Midi location that serves light meals.

Supposed to be the epitome of sourdough in Paris. Here they sell the loaf by slices or weight.
Attitude of staff is as haughty as you expect. No time for you to linger in the shop to browse. Be sure of what you want and just order immediately.

I love this place, grab a baquette and a bottle of wine somewhere and some cheese and go to Luxenbourgh Gardens and just sit and enjoy the people and the Bread is out of this world.
