About
A genuine labyrinth in the heart of underground Paris, this ossuary houses the remains of approximately six million Parisians. The history of the Catacombs dates back to the late 18th century when the city's cemeteries were closed due to health reasons and its contents were moved to an underground site. Today, you can walk down the spiral staircase and take a guided tour of the network of tunnels or explore it at your own pace. It's recommended to buy skip-the-line tickets online to avoid snaking lines. You can easily reach the Catacombs by hopping on the Paris Metro. – Tripadvisor

Okay visit if you've seen all other attractions in Paris
Interesting visit historically but it is much of the same downstairs. The stairs are okay, then you walk for 1 km down below and enter the catacomben. Not very suitable for people with disabllilties or strollers since the stairs are narrow and round and the path is rocky

not worth the time or money
Honestly not worth it. I wasn't really that interested, but husband wanted to go. The website makes it out to be a LOT more interesting than it really is. We were given a headset for the audio tour, which was actually very good, but there wasn't a lot to see. First, you want down alot of steps. Then you walk through a very long tunnel, listening to the tour. After about 10 - 15 minutes, the audio tour tells you that you a have another 5 minutes to walk before you get to the catacombs. The time spent in the catacombs seeing what there is last about 15 - 20 minutes, then back up a large set of stairs. All in all, we were there about 45 minutes. And, it was probably the most costly entry fees on this trip.

    A sight/site like no other
I don't think you'll find something like this anywhere else in the world. The bones of over one million Parisians are stored and displayed in the catacombs. The history of how this came to be is also very interesting. It's a nice, easy underground stroll , but there are some stairs to get down there and back up again.

    Somber but fascinating
A friend recommended this adventure, otherwise I would have been too scared to go, but it was worth it. We took the evening tour, which included a cell phone sized device to hold up to your ear. In general, the catacombs are just a series of underground hallways. But of course, you come for the bones. It was great to hear the stories of how the catacombs came to be and how the Parisian public came to embrace the space. It is somber and quiet, borderline eerie. Come to learn and pay respects, not to play.

Really weird - and definitely worth the visit. Book ahead.
Today was simply weird. We set off on one of my “off the beaten track” tours, this time visiting the Paris Catacombs - an underground warren of tunnels filled with the bones of over 6 million Parisians (1785 - 1865). Background …. the Paris cemeteries reached saturation point in the 1700’s and the solution was to relocate bodies / remains to an old limestone quarry on (what was then) the outskirts of Paris. Well - it was creepy and macabre. With bones and skulls all neatly stacked (from floor to ceiling) for miles. We made lots of new friends.

    Bones & Skulls.........
Bones, skulls and more bones and skulls. The entry times are scheduled and they ran right on time. Many many steps down 131 then back up 112. There is NO elevator. You cannot take any luggage or large bags and there is no place to store anything. No strollers or bike helmets permitted. No touching, no eating, no drinking. You can rent a headset for 5 euros. I cannot remember what we paid to enter but I did not think it was too much. It is damp down there as well and no place to take a rest so be sure you have good walking shoes and can manage those steps that are spiral for the most past. There were no children present. It is just a walking tour through many bones and skulls with some interesting history. Takes about an hour or less. You can have a backpack but you must hold it in front of you once you reach the bone area. They do have a gift shop at the end. They have restrooms before and after.

    Worth a visit, extremely sobering
The audio guide is included in admission. The staff were nice enough and most spoke French and English. Budget for about 1-2hrs (depending on how fast you walk). It's kinda chilly down there, but not terrible. It's pretty solemn and depressing, but nice to pay your respects and learn the history. I didn't love that people were taking selfies with the bones/skulls, but otherwise, it was a thoughtful experience.

    Worth booking a guided tour
What an experience. We've never visited anything like it before and whilst it was a sobering experience, it was well worth it to learn all the history. Our guided tour also meant we 'skipped the queue' which was well worth paying the extra.

Good but expensive for what it is…
Worth a visit but for a family to attend it can be expensive. Also the ticketing website is confusing as you can only book tickets for available slots, however that is not clear on the website. So you may pick 10am and only be allowed 1 ticket as that is all that is left for that slot. If you don’t know this you think you are limited to one ticket. Only by chance did I click another time slot and could buy 4 tickets. (The website does says up to 5 per customer, but when presented with 1 tickets it can easily be confused for having to make 5 different purchases) Anyway…. Just an observation. We were in and out in 30 minutes (no audio guide - was expensive for 4). but was good to see such an historic part of Paris.

    Unique experience
An amazing experience on a number of levels. So glad we went. Awe inspiring. Restricted visitor numbers mean that you get a chance to take it all in from the history of the place to the fact you share the subterranean tunnels with so many dead people.

The website specifies that it is not necessary to book without an audio guide.
And yet when we showed up on March 29 (2 people), we were told "it's full, we had to book"

I showed the website in the attached photo: “no without audio guide, guaranteed access”.

We were shown the exit without the opportunity to say anything.

Welcome and friendliness were not there.

For so-called unmissable monuments when visiting Paris, the least you can do is have an up-to-date website with verified information, especially if a maximum of 200 people can be present at the same time inside for security reasons.

Great alternative to yet more historic sightseeing for teen companion. Under 18s get a good price reduction but no audio guide which is not ideal for teens. The guide is helpfully historic but a slightly more entertaining one might help teen visitors. For example, there were some American girls in the catacombs that I translated 'Arrête, c’est ici l’empire de la Mort (‘Stop, this is the empire of death’) for - a message which is carved on the lintel of the door to the catacombs proper - which both scared them and made it more interesting/fun for them :). It's quite short trip round. We did it in 30 mins, listening to the whole audio guide might double that.
One little boy aged around seven with his parents and brother was a bit scared so judge how sensitive your young people are.

It’s worth the time to see the site but not the money. When you arrive you get greeted by security and ticket staff that are just bored and hardly look at you. No smile no excitement -just doing their job but they dont care. You get an audio guide in your hand and then you are on your own down in the catacombs walking a distance for roughly 1km. The audio guide tells everything that is to know about the place but it’s not personal. It doesn’t create excitement. My 10year old was at the end disappointed and thought it was boring. For 29€ per adult ticket ( at least you only pay 5€ for a child) they need to step up the program.

A very interesting part of Paris lies hidden beneath the surface. In a small part of a tunnel network built to consolidate Paris' ancient stone quarries you'll find underground ossuaries, which hold the remains of more than six million people. So if you don't like seeing dead people, this tour is not for you. I surely found it fascinating seeing all those skulls and bones of people long gone, it reminded me of the transience of life.

I would recommend taking a guided tour in stead of the audioguide tour. The human guide has access to parts of the catacombes you can't visit with a normal guide and has some really interesting stories to tell. Be warned though a guided tour is very pricy, but to me certainly worth the money.

Took my wife and two adult daughters (who both live in Paris). Both had wanted to go here since they first arrived and waited for us to come out to see them again to visit. Cost was a lot but reviews suggested worth paying. All four of us came away feeling very underwhelmed. Could have done with more facts around the place. Wouldn’t bother going back. Probably not worth more than €10 each based on other entrance fees

I was a bit worried that I’d hate this experience solely due to the fact that I am a bit claustrophobic but honestly it was fine. The walkways are spacious and it doesn’t feel overcrowded as they monitor the headcount for how many people are allowed in at a time. Very tall people may be a bit uncomfortable here. The temperature is also perfect and stays the same year round.

My husband and I really enjoyed the experience. The audio guide was informative and interesting. The staff working there were friendly and spoke fluent English. I’d highly recommend reserving your slot in advance as even in February our evening slot was completely booked. I believe that you can only reserve one week in advance.

Cute little gift shop at the end.

Definitely worth a visit if you’re into history and the creepier, darker side of tourism.

One of the most underrated places to visit in Paris. This was originally not something I had on my list to visit but after a recommendation from my friend, i decided to go and visit. I would recommend pre-buying tickets as the line could easily 2-3 to get in. I’m not sure on the exact number of visitors they let in each hour but it is for sure controlled. It is for sure slightly distribuent being surrounded by millions of skulls and bones but it was equally fascinating and impressive. Overall, an enjoyable experience that I would recommend to people visiting Paris.

My girlfriend and I attended today, it was incredible. I recommend pre buying the tickets as we got to skip the que! They check bags and ask you to empty pockets upon entry and you can pick up an audio guide. We used this until no.8, then forgot to continue using it as too busy looking around at all the human remains. 100% recommend visiting here, defiantly an experience!

We visited the catacombs as we had missed it on previous visits to Paris. We booked the tickets online and finding the site was really easy, once you get off the metro it's no more than 500m away!. We arrived on time for our timed entry and were waved right through. When you enter they will security check your bag, then a little further you are given a free audio tour handset. There is quite a long climb down to the tombs and I don't recommend looking down at your feet as you go because it can become quite dizzying! Onc down in the tombs the guide walks you nicely through the history of the quarries, and the catacombs that followed and you follow a winding path through. It's quite somber at first when you finally Wal into the area where the skeletons are but as you walk through the audioguide really turns it into a interesting and engaging experience . Sadly there is a steep climb back up those stairs at the end! But a lovely little gift shop at the top to reward yourself.

This place is certainly worth visiting but it is way too expensive (27€ per person) for what is is. The visit takes about 30 minutes and is quite monotomous. Just look at some pictures online and save yourself the expense.
