About
A genuine labyrinth in the heart of underground Paris, this ossuary houses the remains of approximately six million Parisians. The history of the Catacombs dates back to the late 18th century when the city's cemeteries were closed due to health reasons and its contents were moved to an underground site. Today, you can walk down the spiral staircase and take a guided tour of the network of tunnels or explore it at your own pace. It's recommended to buy skip-the-line tickets online to avoid snaking lines. You can easily reach the Catacombs by hopping on the Paris Metro. – Tripadvisor

    Stunning unique place
This was definitely the place I wanted to visit the most when booking our time in Paris and it didn't disappoint! There wasn't really a queue to get in so it was a really fast process. We also ordered audio guides which is really worth it as it takes you through each section very meticulously. Understandably, there are a lot of stairs to go in and out of the catacombs so would not be ideal for people with mobility issues. The gift shop, although pricey, had a range of merchandise, including clothes, books and small items. i personally bought an interesting book (Atlas of Dark Destinations) as well as magnets and key rings. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and would recommend to anyone who are into gory/macabre attractions.

    Nice but overpriced
It's a nice unconventional place to visit in Paris where you can learn some interesting facts about how Parisians lived and died in the past. However, as the tunnels are narrow you might get stuck behind other people crawling at their own pace. Additionally, I was there on a rainy day and it was quite wet down there - I don't know about other days but it might be safer to wear waterproof shoes. Overall, the price for entering the spot seems too high: it costs as a full-price ticket to Versailles where you spend far more time, whereas here it took me about 40 minutes to go through the place and I was even reading almost all the information stands.

    Creepy!
We purchased the audio guided tickets! We arrived 5 minutes before our ticket time and was able to go straight in with no queue! You get your audio guide before you go down the stairs and it is very informative! There are lots of steps and uneven surfaces! I would not recommend taking you children as it is very macabre! The gift shop was good!

    Amazing Space
Somewhat macabre and reinforced my views on cremation ... this was a great hour and a bit below the streets of Paris. Fascinating history of why the bones were moved (to make way for a growing Paris) and how (quite respectfully). You must book in advance (and only a week in advance is allowed) and do get the audio guide as it explains a lot. Do not go if you are at all claustrophobic. Great part of Paris to explore - consider combining with the Montparnasse Tower, the Luxembourg Gardens and the Latin Quarter.

    Creepy and unexpected
This is a great alternative to the typical monument tour that makes up most of Paris. Great information on the audio guide. Would suggest this to everyone! Make sure you have closed toe walking shoes, the underground area is wet, uneven and rocky. Also, the stairs up and down are no joke. If you have any mobility issues, skip this attraction. There is no easy escape route.

    Brilliant visit
The catacombs are amazing to visit. It is very macabre but it was very interesting to see how it came about and the history of the catacombs themselves. It was quite cold and wet so that is worth bearing in mind but otherwise a great visit. Would recommend having an audio guide to add to the experience. Also fantastic shop at the end.

Okay visit if you've seen all other attractions in Paris
Interesting visit historically but it is much of the same downstairs. The stairs are okay, then you walk for 1 km down below and enter the catacomben. Not very suitable for people with disabllilties or strollers since the stairs are narrow and round and the path is rocky

not worth the time or money
Honestly not worth it. I wasn't really that interested, but husband wanted to go. The website makes it out to be a LOT more interesting than it really is. We were given a headset for the audio tour, which was actually very good, but there wasn't a lot to see. First, you want down alot of steps. Then you walk through a very long tunnel, listening to the tour. After about 10 - 15 minutes, the audio tour tells you that you a have another 5 minutes to walk before you get to the catacombs. The time spent in the catacombs seeing what there is last about 15 - 20 minutes, then back up a large set of stairs. All in all, we were there about 45 minutes. And, it was probably the most costly entry fees on this trip.

    A sight/site like no other
I don't think you'll find something like this anywhere else in the world. The bones of over one million Parisians are stored and displayed in the catacombs. The history of how this came to be is also very interesting. It's a nice, easy underground stroll , but there are some stairs to get down there and back up again.

    Somber but fascinating
A friend recommended this adventure, otherwise I would have been too scared to go, but it was worth it. We took the evening tour, which included a cell phone sized device to hold up to your ear. In general, the catacombs are just a series of underground hallways. But of course, you come for the bones. It was great to hear the stories of how the catacombs came to be and how the Parisian public came to embrace the space. It is somber and quiet, borderline eerie. Come to learn and pay respects, not to play.

Great time. Won’t waste a lot of time as I bet there are a lot of 5* reviews. Difficult to please (iPhone addicted) 15-year old thought it was great. So, there’s that.

VIATOR TICKETS ARE A SCAM. This tour is definitely worth doing. Unfortunately the tickets we purchased on Viator were a scam (as many others were according to reviews and others at check in). We had to repurchase tickets at arrival and then dispute with Viator. Only book through the museum and know there is no “skip the line” tix for this one. The Viator tixs were also more expensive than the real ones.

However, the actual tour was great and the 5 stars given is for the experience.

Exploring the Paris Catacombs was an awe-inspiring journey beneath the city's streets. The cool, silent tunnels lined with the bones of over six million Parisians created a hauntingly beautiful testament to history. Arriving early allowed me to beat the crowds, making the experience even more immersive.

Tried to visit this site years ago but could not secure tickets ahead of time. I was able to this time and it was well worth it! Arrive via Metro and walked across the street to the entrance. Had 5PM ticket but was allowed in ~20 minutes early. Guard at the front of the line did not play around - if your ticket wasn’t either printed or already pulled up on your phone, you were pulled out of line and had to go back to the end of the line.

After you get checked they give you a handheld audio guide and send you down the ling spiral staircase into the Catacombs. The audio guide definitely helped explain the origins of the Catacombs.

Depending on when you enter, you could be in the mix with a bunch of people or you may find yourself alone at times (there was one point where I was completely by myself in the middle of a lot of bones!).

I am glad I got to see this site and would highly recommend it. Of note, if you can’t navigate stairs, you can’t do this tour. There is no accessible accommodation.

If the idea of this turns you off, skip it. But if you're intrigued, go, because it is intriguing!

The history is fascinating, how Parisians created one problem (they mined the ground out from under themselves), solved it, then used the emptied spaces to solve another problem (too many dead Parisians). It's beautiful in a sort of macabre way.

They are very picky about tickets! Best to book ahead online (they open up 7 days ahead of time and they go pretty fast) and be sure to be on time (no entry 15 min after your time slot).

There is an audioguide provided for adults, not for kids (but you can just share). It includes a lot of info that's on placards early in the tour, but there are no placards in the part with bones, so the audioguide is the only way to get some very interesting info (hint: goldfish and a concert).

The route is one-way and there's only one accessible route, so you won't get lost. My son was excited and zipped through in about half an hour, but you could certainly go a bit slower! It's about 1 km. If you are 6 ft or so, you may have to duck in places. It is pretty close and cavelike; stay away if you're claustrophobic. You'll end in a different place than you started at an appropriately macabre little gift shop.

This was my second time visiting the catacombs and I found it all quite interesting.

DO NOT USE HEADOUT FOR CATACOMBS BOOKINGS IN PARIS!!!! We showed up at the meeting point 20 minutes early and no-one was there. We waited 1 hour. From the meeting point to where the catacombs entrance was. We even asked at the office. They also didn’t have any booking for this company. Yes we got scammed!!!!! Headout I will not be using your app again.

The walk through the Paris Catacombs is extremely interesting and memorable. It's quite hard to put into words what you see other than, bones. There's lotsa bones, but there's a lot more to it than that. It's rich in history and vibes. Highly recommend picking up an audio guide on the way in for context as you stroll the 1.5 km path under ground. A warning for folks with mobility issues, there's 131 steps down a spiral staircase to get underground and another spiral staircase with 112 steps to climb back up. The steps are wide enough to allow you to pause and allow folks to pass should you need to pause like I did on the way back up.

We have been to Paris many times but never to the Catacombs. It was worth a visit. It is unusual but very interesting. It is also nice and cool when you are here in the summer. Make sure to buy the tickets directly from them and plan ahead. They sell out fast and go on sale exactly 7 days before to the minute! I saw a guy outside calling a vendor from whom he had bought invalid tickets!
They have an audio guide in English which is included. We really enjoyed it if that doesn’t sound too morbid!
