We got there just before it opened so only queued for security. We also queued to buy tickets before realising that we didn't need tickets because we are EU citizens under 26 so only needed photo ID. There's a lot of different rooms with different...More

Must have an audio guide and possibly read up about the artwork on display there before going. Because the descriptions are mostly French and difficult to understand in itself(even if you do know French). And is impossible to appreciate without understanding the slightest context (date,...More

It's huge! The place is spectacular! Requires a whole day to cover the place apparently. A word of caution, do not entertain with the people standing outside with posters and forms to sign.

It's so easy to get lost in the Louvre. All the paintings are so mesmerizing. I recommend buying your ticket before hand so you can enter the museum faster. If you're traveling by metro, make sure you get off on Palais Royal/Musee du Louvre since...More

OK, so this was my fourth visit to Paris, and I finally got to the Louvre (Musee D'Orsay completes heavily for my attention). We only had a bit of time, so we hit the things I wanted to see: Mona Lisa and the sculpture galleries....More

Louvre / Palais-Royal
From the majestic Louvre to the regal Palais-Royal,
this neighbourhood oozes luxury. The grand arches
along Rue de Rivoli are shadowed by mosaics in front
of decorated vitrines and hotels. Place Vendôme is
lined with the world’s best jewelers and their
glittering window displays. Every other establishment
has someone to open the door for you or park your car.
You can spend hours gazing at its haute couture shops

Should we buy our advance tickets before we leave the United States? We have read their are side entrances that you can use if you have an advance ticket - is that true?

If you will be here come summer holidays or on a weekend, pre purchased tickets are a good idea. We have visited twice in the last week, a week day and a Wednesday night. Both times we walked right up to the ticket kiosk and... More

I am not sure about it. It's worth calling the museum directly.

Can you access the courtyard at any time or are there limitations? I am a photographer and will be in Paris for just a few days, and would really like to photograph the pyramids at sunrise before people start lining up

I've been there at all times! I'm not sure how late it may be open but I don't see how they could close the courtyard down. The latest I've been there is like 10pm-11pm because it's so beautiful with the lights and I'm sure... More
