Nothing more wonderful than walking into Notre Dame and hearing the choir and organ in that vast cathedral space. If you can hear a sung mass before you start the tour I recommend it for a spiritual lift. Don't forget to climb the stairs to the roof of the building to take in the wonderful 360 degree views of Paris... More

That place is magnificent both in and out. When you see it from outside its beautiful and gotic style will definitely overwhelme you and as you walk in things just get better and better. It's a bit difficult to get inside though for the long lines but it's worth to wait.

My wife and I made it to Notre Dame with just an hour to spare before closing and are we ever glad we did! You could spend a week there and not possibly discover every treasure. Mass was underway so our senses were lit while silent visitors toured and prayed. My wife, often stoic, was visibly moved at one point... More

I have been to more than my fair share of Cathedrals, and Notre Dame is the most amazing one I have ever been to. Massive towers, incredible architecture, gorgeous stained glass windows. the Island itself is beautiful and worth visiting.

Had a lovely wander around the cathedral and was in genuine awe the whole trip. I am not a religious person but in a building so beautiful and intriguing it was difficult not to wonder about what people will do in regards to worshipping. An excellent add to our trip and to walk around the exterior spotting gargoyles was also... More

A highlight of any Paris tour. This is a gothic cathedral with intricate detail. It is quite a spectical, in line with most cathedrals of Europe. The reason for 4 stars, is it can't compete with the likes of the Vatican for example.

This was my favorite part of my Paris trip. As a kid I loved the story of the hunchback of Notre Dame and it was fabulous to see it in person. The bells the original bells are seated along side the cathedral. The gargoyles are a must see. The inside was so magnificent and beautiful. Spent a few hours there.

You can tell that tourism is down in Paris as we were virtually able to walk into the Cathedral without having to wait in long queues to have our belongings scanned by security. This is a gorgeous Cathedral in the heart of Paris dating from 1160 .it has interesting gargoyles around its exterior and it is one of the earliest... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
