The Notre Dame is said to be the most popular tourist attraction in Paris. It is absolutely worth seeing. We booked a tour to understand all that it offers in terms of history, art and architecture. A lot of history of Paris and France is right here.

A beautiful cathedral with quite the courtyard for tourists and picture-takers. To go inside was free (in Dec '16) and the climb to the top (10€) held a spectacular view! Well worth the wait and the climb up.

Walking into this cathedral is an amazing experience - it truly takes you back in time! Lovely painted glass windows that you could stare at endlessly adorn this stunning piece of architecture and history.

We have seen many many places of worship in our travels around the world. In our opinion Notre Dame is special because of its outward appearance, location and setting.

My husband and I wiled away an hour or so in here just looking, and listening. We walked the perimeter of the cathedral, admiring all the statues, and saints. We had arrived before mass, so as we had n where to be, we sat at the back and just listened. As a couple who are agnostic, we still found the... More

Was able to attend Sunday mass in this historic and beautiful church on my birthday. Only negative was the tourists taking pictures while we attended mass.

I have been to the Notre Dame thrice now and every time, it seems to take me by surprise - the architecture is just mind-boggling! The patience to build something like that over hundreds of years demonstrates huge vision and collective responsibility

Notre Dame may have been one of my favorite sights to see during my 3 day stay in Paris. Based on other reviews, my wife and made sure to get there early. I can not stress this enough, if you want to wait in little to no line, make sure Notre Dame is your first stop of the day. We... More

I have loved this Gothic style church for so long. I have lived in Paris off and on for years and I never tire of seeing the building. Inside, has some signage, which I didn't like, last time I was there. But, it's just a wonder to see and be inside and breathe the air. The history and the story... More

This was a beautiful cathedral and we enjoyed our visit. Definitely go in the morning and on a weekday. This place was extremely crowded. The architecture and history was impressive. Walking is easy in the cathedral and there are lots of places to sit down, rest and just enjoy the views surrounding you. No entry fee, unless you want to... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
