When we visited on Good Friday they were in the middle of doing the Stations of the Cross. Just beautiful to be in this church and witness one of the holiest days of the Christian calendar.

If you have seen the Hunchback of Notre Dame, you have to see this, and if you are Catholic, you must see this, and if you are neither of those, still go see it. This Church is amazing and to think that it is as old as it is, and with the skills those people would have had to have... More

We elected not to take the tour that involved climbing to the top of the cathedral, instead only seeing the inside at ground level. This church is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen.

I've just written a "Terrible" review for the "skip the line" tour I prepaid/booked online via Viator where my wife and I learnt we got cancelled because they overbooked the tour. HOWEVER, - after I simmered down and joined the queue for the regular ground level access to the cathedral, I came to enjoy the place very much. Especially when... More

All cathedrals have a special type of peace and despite the crowds this beautiful old cathedral was just as special.

A second visit, this time a little more relaxed with more time available to observe. very difficult to explain the sense of history one gets when you walk into the building and thankfully we did not have to deal with the significant crowds that you see mentioned in many reviews. and absolute must see on any visit to Paris.

Historic must! Splendid. Fast moving line for security check to enter. Line to climb is longer and need time. There is not a way to jump line that we found so count on at least 1 1/2 hour minimum for climbing, view and wait time. Free public bathroom close.

The Notre Dame is such a beautiful monument, situated at central Paris. It is huge from inside and so well made. The carvings, glass facade and rich history inside will stun almost everyone. I would advise interested people to take a guided tour to learn about the rich history of this place, which started construction nearly 900 years ago. We... More

We started by visiting inside the Cathedral which was already superbe. But then we realized that we could go on the top of it! The line, then you face the building, is located on the left. The view from the top is just breathtaking. You a can also access the bell. You can't buy your 10euros ticket online to access,... More

Staying in Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis

Neighbourhood Profile
Ile de la Cite / Ile Saint-Louis
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.
