About
The iconic Notre Dame Cathedral Paris—meaning ‘Our Lady of Paris’—is a masterpiece of French Gothic architecture. Built back in the 12th century, the important monument has witnessed many historical events. It has also inspired Victor Hugo’s story of the Hunchback of Notre-Dame. Outside the cathedral, you can admire its grand exterior which is framed by an elegant pair of bell towers, stained glass windows and an ornately decorated facade with grand statues. You can also enter the cathedral for a small entrance fee to view Nio-Gothic artwork and furniture as well as join their weekly sessions. – Tripadvisor

Neighbourhood: Ile de la Cité
Two islands sit in the middle of the Seine at the very heart of Paris. The more majestic one, Ile de la Cité, sparkles with history. This is the birthplace of Paris, the home of the Gothic Sainte-Chapelle, and the site of the prison where Marie Antoinette was held before her execution. Tourists flock to see the iconic Notre Dame and the beautiful bridges that straddle the Seine. Ile Saint-Louis, the more provincial island, welcomes you with cozy traditional eateries, small boutiques, and what some people say is the best ice cream in the city. This is essential Paris from its very beginnings to its modern appeal.

Not even the most impressive Paris church...but lives up to the hype!
Paris is full of amazing Catholic churches, and this is the most famous...but perhaps not even the most impressive, which is really saying something about the grandeur of Paris' population of churches. Be sure to visit the statue of Charlemagne & his two guards sitting beside to the church. They look like you would imagine the Vikings raiders who traversed the river and seized the city at one point!

    Always Majestic
Still very much the tourist attraction and place to visit. Semi-permanent bleachers have been constructed to allow for seating and better traffic flow. A large tent has also been add for food and pastries. It was terrible to look at all of the damage the fire did. Thankfully the church will be saved.

Beautiful building, I came close to the inside.
Because of the fire no one is allowed in yet, BUT...do the 3-D experience under Notre Dame. It was excellent. I feel like I did see the inside, and the story of the fire and repair are amazing. Also go to the Architecture Museum to see all the items removed from Notre Dame.

    Cathedral of Notre Dame
This majestic handsome man is now under reconstruction after the 2019 fire. Now modern technologies have stepped forward a lot, plus the cathedral is loved all over the world, so a huge number of patrons have allocated money for its restoration. We look forward to seeing it in full beauty again.

    Still worthy of a visit
Despite the repairs under way, the grand old lady of the Notre Dame cathedral is still worth a visit. The architecture and statuary are stunning. Certainly worth a look awaiting when she is again open for viewing.

Amazing virtual reality tour of Notre Dame on sight at Notre Dame
Do NOT miss the hidden gem virtual reality tour. Amazing experience. Well worth the 30 Euro per person. Entrance downstairs behind the bleachers. The virtual 3-D experience turns you into an avatar figure. You’ll walk through Notre Dame cathedral from its beginning in 1100s to the rebuild in 2023. You will visit the bell towers, nave, alter, choir loft as you travel through time. Life like moving figures of each period in time surround you - along with the construction workers. My husband and I were blown away! Best kept secret in Paris! Only available until they re-open end of 2024. You feel like you are actually there!

Best of luck with the restoration!
Whislt I don't feel able to give a 5* review whilst Notre Dame is inaccessible, I look forward to visiting again one day whilst the hard work on the restoration is complete. There is so much scaffolding and closure right now that it's difficult to see a lot of the building. It feels consumed!

    Wonderfull Place
Because I was in the area, I decided it would be irresponsible of me to miss the chance to check on the progress of the renovation. The cathedral is still a magnificent and reassuring sight, and there were large numbers of people there to observe the continuing restoration work, take photographs, and take in its splendour and beauty, which were unaffected by the scaffolding and cranes that surrounded it. I'm sure that I'm not the only person who is looking forward to visiting Notre Dame after it has been restored to its previous glory.

    Still under construction!
(Nov '23) Since April 2019 Norte Dame has not been open to the public and it still the case ~ they are hoping to be open for the Paris Olympic Games 2024! With that said you can still go to the Cathedral for free and watch the progress from the exterior. They even have large bleachers to sit on to watch. There is a Huge Fence surrounding the Cathedral but you can see from about 8' and up ~ and still great views of the gargoyles.

Still under construction due to fire damage. Famous sites in Paris. The area direct south on the other side of the street is the famous Latin quarter of Paris. I hope they could open in 2024 since I only stay in paris until 2024

I went to Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris as I have marked this in my schedule, but was really disappointed as there is currently restorations work underway and much of the cathedral is behind scaffolding. Absolutely worth a visit, but don't build your day around it Take a minute to read the refurb information.

As frequent travelers to Paris, we had visited the Cathedral many times and watched with horror when the fire was televised.
We went this time for two reasons: the first was to see “Fete du Pain” on the plaza of ND. A celebration of dozens of working bakers creating breads and pastries for sale and interactive demonstrations, it was so interesting!
The second reason: to see progress on the restoration. Rising into the Paris skyline and reading the steps taken to restore this sacred space, it is truly breathtaking!

One of The Most Famous Cathedrales in the World. We attended Mass here on Sunday. We returned on another day to take Photographs of This Holy Cathedale. The Presence is Truly Awe Inspiring. We were married in a Wonderful Church.
To be Married in Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris would be Beyond Imagination.

Although the cathedral is still under construction, it’s still worth a visit to this iconic landmark in Paris. We went to visit after visiting Sainte Chapelle. It’s a very close walk to Shakespeare and Company.

Still impressive to see the outside during the reconstruction since the 2019 fire. You can marvel at the exterior of parts of the building and see displays as to how the reconstruction work is progressing and the anticipated final result. Pretty busy area. The only downside to this venue is the traffic which is abysmal in this area. Best to take the Metro instead.

It was ok. Not much to ser since it’s still under reconstruction from the fire in 2019 but still a cool thing to see. Impressed with the building in general.
