We came here because we heard it was the hipster area. So we strolled along the canal. There were some people hanging out around its banks, but nothing like the Seine. I did detect the distinct smell of garbage several times. The overall place is...More

I have to say I was disappointed. According to book guide, I expected calm and cozy place, and in some parts it really was. But also we experienced places with a lot of garbage and weird smell...

A lovely place to take a bike ride away from the busy traffic of Paris. Take a vepid bike from near Republique and head North. Pretty in places.

Having done the Seine cruise, thought a trip up the Saint Martin canal would offer a new perspective on the waterways of Paris. Wow, the underground tunnel is amazing in its architecture and ambience. The locks are of interest as are the swinging bridges and...More

We stayed in Paris for the long, Ascension Day weekend recently. We had rented a top floor maisonette/apartment overlooking the Canal Saint Martin. Given the beautifully hot, balmy weather there were many people strolling along the banks of the canal and/or just sitting enjoying the...More

Starting from the marine in front of Musee d'Orsay, the cruise takes you up the Seine before turning into Canal Saint-Martin. Incredible that this is man made, and an enjoyable way to spend 2 1/2 hours with the novelty of going through nine lochs.Lovely bridges...More

My hotel was just in front of the canal and, to be honest, I really expected more about this. Don't recommend the visit.

We discovered the canal accidentaly. It was very romantic and calm. We walked by the river -the place is full of trees so it is ideal for a walk. Do not miss it!

Nice looking body of water almost look like the Seine. There is a lovely half circle bridge that goes over. I was lucky on that particular day to see the traffic halt to a stand still so that the road was moved out of its...More

The tree-lined Canal Saint-Martin is the focal point
of one of the most romantic and hip areas of Paris.
Watch boats travel along the canal while lovers and
friends take in the atmosphere from the banks or the
bridges. Evenings see hoards fill the embankments to
drink wine and enjoy good company. The colder days
lead people to hipster bars, cozy restaurants, and
concert spaces. Those who are more adventurous may

Can one purchase canal cruise tickets in advance for only one specific day? Or can one purchase a ticket that is good for a 7 day period? Is the St. Martin canal cruise that departs near the d'Orsay a round-trip cruise - - or is it one way? The website is not clear on these topics. Thanks.....
