In the heart of the 7th district, (a short stroll form the Eiffel tower) le Moulin de le Vierge on St. Dominique provides for a quick gourmet pause in this chic and lively neighborhood... Nestled amongst the fashion boutiques, cafes and bistros of the area, the bakery caters to both the local gourmands and the visitors of this quaint area located between the Esplanade and the Champs de Mars. Inside beyond the counter is a small tea salon where one can enjoy tartines, millefeuilles, macarons and various other sweet or savory treats, accompanied by a coffee or traditional hot chocolate. The boutique on St. Dominique is open daily from 7:30 to 20:30, closed Wednesdays.

I have been to Paris 19 times now and I have to say this is our favorite street to walk on in Paris. It is in our favorite arrondisement, and it is a great walk. If you start from Champs des Mars where the Eiffel tower is and head towards Saint Germain des Pres you will hit all the best restaurants and shops one after another. They are all a stones throw from one another, like the three Chef Constant restaurants - Café Constant (139 rue Saint-Dominique), Les Cocottes (135, rue Saint-Dominique) and Le Violons D'Ingres (also at 135). La Fontaine de Mars (129) and its competitor right beside it Les Fables del la Fontaine at 131. Thoumieux is down the street at 79 and Chez L'Ami Jean is at 27 Rue Malar just off of St- Dominique. Rue Cler, the top notch open air high end food market/stores is right in the middle of it and for great coffee stop by Café Richard 145 also known as Les Comptoirs Richard which sells the coffee and other accoutrements. For some of the best Fois Gras and anything duck related go to Dubernet Foie Gras off of St-Dom at 2 Rue Augereau. There are so many pastry and chocolate shops many of them award winners in Paris and French competitions. Curling is a great store for both women's and men's fashion and then you also have Chattawak for women's as well. AND if you are dying for a Starbucks it is at 90 St-Dominique. Plus there are enough pharmacies and small supermarkets to do any kind of shopping for the essentials if you are lucky enough to rent a place or stay in some of the boutique hotels around. After so many trips we have decided that this is our favorite area and we now, for the past 3 trips, have stayed in this area and it is like a home to us. .

When you are strolling along the quaint arc of rue St. Dominique - which is a pleasant path to the Eiffel Tower and the pedestrian only rue Cler - stop at the charming patisserie Le Moulin de la Vierge for what I think are some of the better Palmiers (we used to call them elephant ears) in town. I also like their pain du Campagne a whole grain sourdough that is not as heavy as pain du complete nor as sour as American sourdough. The raspberry tart and eclairs are also quite good. Couple this with very friendly service - carte de credit is fine - and you'll find yourself saying " A bientot!" as you leave.

My husband and I were walking from the Eiffel Tower to Hotel des Invalides and were in the mood for some baked goods. We had no plans on where to stop, just at what ever looked good. We stumbled into Le Moulin De La Vierge or Boulangeris (not sure of the name but look for either!) and discovered the best treats ever! We were planning to return later that day but we ran out of time! We even kept the label from the box of treats because it was so good! :) This is a must if you are in Paris. The place was filled with locals too so it was even better because you know it's good! The address is 64, rue Saint Dominique, 7eme. Enjoy!! I wish I could again!

I lived here for a few months and can't wait to return. Great shopping, great food, great people. Has a small town feeling in the middle of Paris.

We stayed in this neighborhood in 2010 and 2012. Both times were in vacation apartments. The apartments are a lot cheaper than hotels and offer a lot more space and amenities.
The first time we had a place on Rue Malar and the second time Rue Saint-Dominique. This neighborhood is active during the day and still at night. I always felt safe, day or night. Being non-French, we never felt unwelcome. The area has great bakeries, a grocery store, reasonably priced restaurants. The Rue Cler street has wonderful outdoor markets were you can buy very tasty already cooked foods. Almost all of the landmarks are within walking distance. The Metro and regional trains each have nearby stations.
Bar du Central was our favorite indoor/outdoor restaurant. We are not foodies. The meals were basic and very good.
When we return to Paris we will stay in this area.

The street is simply crowded with good to excellent restaurants.
We have eaten at Fontaine Du Mars often, but the standards seem to be slipping and the food just isn't as good as it used to be.
Fontaine du Fables is just wonderful. We ate sole meniuer (sp?) to share. Service was excellent, wine was good, atmosphere were all very good to say the least.
Cafe Constant - very good
Violin des Inglsise - another high end restaurant. Romantic restaurant and excellent food.
I could go on. It is hard not to stumble into a great experience.

This street charmed us on our first trip to Paris, cutting a swath through the tony 7th arrondissement. It stretches from the Champ de Mars to the intersection where busy Boulevard St-Germain curves north to meet the Seine. It's not an overly long street, but it's long enough to spend an afternoon walking from end to end, especially if you stop for ice cream or coffee.
Rue St-Dominique doesn't have an overly touristy fee. Narrow in spots, the street is lined with good restaurants, shoe stores, kitchen shops, bakeries, bistros, boutiques and butcher shops (Loved the horse meat sign we saw day!).
We wanted to explore more on our next trip. A few years later we rented an apartment in the 7th in order to experience the daily round in Paris. We were within easy walking distance of Rue St-Dominique and Rue Cler, the famous food street. We often wandered down the street, sometimes shopping, sometimes people watching. While you do see some tourists, you see more locals, including many mothers or fathers with their children as there are several schools nearby. We often took the bus down Rue St-Dominique, another excellent way to get to know Parisian thoroughfares.
Rue St-Dominique is a great neighborhood that offers easy access to tourist sites and more famous neighborhoods. while offering its own exciting ambience. Since many Americans live in the 7th, it's not unusual to hear English on the street. Americans with limited French skills will find this part of Paris very easy to navigate (although no part of Paris is especially difficult).
It's a great neighborhood, near Invalides, the Eiffel Tower, the Bramly, Rue Cler and Musee d'Orsay. There are also some affordable hotels and rental units within walking distance.

J'adore rue Saint Dominique ! As a Parisian who has lived in England for the last forty years, I know. Rue Saint Dominique is such a charming and mixed street ... succulent restaurants but also traditional cafés and super-markets, antiques, fashion and ideal terraces where it is great to breakfast while looking at the passers by.

We were relocating to Paris from the States for my Husbands work. While on a tour of the city fell in love with this area and decided this is where we wanted to live. Since that day about 2 years ago, we have no regrets. The other reviews are spot on, there is everything you need on this street sandwiched by the Eiffel Tower and Invalides. If you visit the city, please take the time to spend a couple of hours (including lunch or dinner) on this wonderful street.

To me, this is the heart of the 7ème arrondissement. It is a long commercial street with a lot of life. If you live temporarily or permanently in the area, you will find everything you need: large and small food shops, bakeries, clothing shops, pharmacies, hairdressers, banks, cafes and restaurants, apartments buildings, schools, a church, a bookstore, flower shops.
On each end of this section, you have the park in front of the hotel des Invalides and the park in front of the Eiffel tower.
Several bus lines either intercept the street, or drive through it. Finally, you have subway stations and RER stations are very close.
Finally, it is close to the River Seine and the bateaux mouches.
This is a very privileged street and area. It looks like a village. It is very lively, clean, friendly, and simple. And prices are affordable.

Hi I’m looking to stay in an apartment I have already stayed in but can’t remember the address. It is located in Rue St Dominique, has a large courtyard, with apartments on 3 sides of it. There is a bakery, supermarket and butcher nearby and there was once a cashmere shop across the road. Thank you for your help. Leah
