Nice stop on the way to the Citadele

This Cathedrale is beautiful, as many are. It was interesting to walk to it on our way to the Citadele.

The cathedral is beautiful for itself, with 2 altars and Rommanesque arches from the 13th century. It is right nest to "Porte Noir" which is an impressive Roman gate. In a side room there is an incredible clock from the 19 century, with over 30,000 parts and 57 faces, showing all kids of information. It still works, and the nice... More

This lovely historic cathedral is full of worshiping members of the parish with many, many children during Sunday mass. Children with families in this historic beautiful cathedral is very inspiring.

We enjoyed our visit here, particularly the altar of St Jean from the 12th century, i think, which is very unusual. The painting by Fra Bartolo is gorgeous. The mosaic floor of Jerusalem is also something different. Pity the cathedral is so dark.

We were there during an organ demonstration, and it was very interesting. The cathedral is not as elaborate as some we saw in the area but worth a visit.

Like for a cathedrale, there's nothing worth seeing. The walls are empty, just some paintings sometimes. However the size of the church is impressive and the little chapels inside the cathedrale are realy cute. It is nice to enter passing by on the way to the citadelle.

Quiet, even though it is in the center of town. There are some good examples of religious art inside. Take the time to enter, sit and reflect on your life's purpose.

My wife and I were walking up tithe Citadel in Besancon when we came upon this church. I am so glad that we decided to take a look inside. To be honest it is spectacular and well worth the few minutes it takes to see it.

Certainly worth a visit if you're in Besançon. Not sure if I'd make the trip just for the cathedral however. Nice position and coming up from the old town you will pass through an old Roman archway, the "Porte Noire" - which since it's been cleaned is no longer black, but still worth seeing.
