Following Rick Steves guide, we popped in for a look in the lobby and peaked through the window into the reading room. Toilets downstairs.

A working library and also a museum at the same time. Gorgeous building donated by Andrew Carnegie after the complete destruction of Reims in World War I. A real beauty of a visit

Cool, old school card catalog. We heard there was a great place to see a panorama of the city from the top floor of the library but we found everything to be blocked off.

Stunning example of Art Deco building sponsored in the 1920s by the Andrew Carnegie Trust. The exterior has is elegant with delightful touches, but full of rich detail and beautiful ornamentation. There are gorgeous mosaics in the entrance hall and the reading room has stained glass windows that do not dominate.

This library is so close to the cathedral that it would be a pity to not pay it a visit when going to the church. The entry room has a fantastic chandelier, its walls have amazing mosaic scenes surrounded by very fine marble, and the reading room has stained glass from the early 1900s that creates a wonderful sense of the times. Even the card catalogue room is a thing of beauty, with parquet floors and wood cabinets that are gorgeous. Be quiet, though, because this is a working library with studious patrons doing research. Your visit can be as short as fifteen minutes. And it's free.

When they discovered that all the libraries in Reims had been destroyed in WWI, the Carnegie foundation created this gorgeous library. It is a work of art and soul.

Lovely little art deco library built in Art Deco fashion by the philantropist Andrew Carnegie to repmace the library in the city largely destroyed when tbe Hotel de Ville was bombed in 1917.
It's a very pretty understated building that definitely worth a stop for pictures or a visit.

The library was holding a special art exhibit in the lobby. We also saw a photo-op of a card-catalogue room (something to show our grandchildren). BTW, the basement has a free very clean bathroom and a 4o cent coffee or hot chocolate machine--it was reasonably good especially for the price. It was a nice low-key visit after seeing the cathedral.

Since I was young growing up special in a small town I was told our Library was special as it was a Carnegie. 40 years later and having read his biography I have become fascinated with checking out Carnegie Libraries. There is something special yet similar about them all. This library was beautiful and a great example of the Art Nouveau movement. The iron grill work was amazing. It really felt like a great place to hunker down with a book. Check it out when visiting the Cathedral.

We were at the Cathedral and after visiting that and the Palais da Tau, we decided to check out the Bibliotheque Carnegie. The gardens to the library were very nice and offered some shade from the heat. The outside was also very beautiful. The inside of the library is very grand but there’s not too much to it. Maybe I missed it? Overall it was still a fine experience and very photo-worthy!
