About
On the Champagne route, this private estate is lived in all year round. Its sumptuous interiors were created by prestigious artists at the behest of the Princes of Savoie. Read about its fascinating history: the Princes of Condé, Richelieu, Olympe and her mysterious “powders”. You will be hugely impressed by the "Watteau" wing and its recently discovered frescoes, the Servandoni ballroom and the drawing room decorated by Oudry with its unforgettable “magic” mirror.

We really liked the exterior if not the trompe l'oeil exterior windows.
However we found the interior disappointing.
A little clutter and taste mistakes.
In short, 12 euros is expensive for what there is to see.

We were warmly welcomed by the Châtelaine who offered a visit of the castle very playful to our grandchildren delighted to have dressed up as a princess and knight in the entrance hall to browse beautifully decorated rooms in search of unusual objects in these places. Then it was a treasure race that took us to discover the park and its mysterious animals. A very pleasant moment in a magical setting. To advise with children.

This castle is definitely worth the trip from paris. It's a gem: filled with beautiful antique furniture and paintings, in a beautiful setting, you will remember it forever and is the most romantic castle I know. You can easily imagine what was the life in a French castle and It's worth the experience when you want to experiment French History.

The Chateau of Conde, nestled in the hills of Jean de la Fontaines champagne region is a true find. An intimate and a gorgeous domain made our trip fun and easy to comprehend ( especially for children and young teens). The historical overview of the regions monarchy and the stories linked to Chateau de Conde, given by its' owner, is more authentic than many other chateaux's of the Loire or than that of the Dordogne regions.
Simple, fun, and understated, the guide through the rooms is quick, and easy for foreigners to
grasp. Loved the impressive Oudry paintings, typical of the hunting grounds in the nearby lands!
Best time to visit is from April until beginning October, when one can picnic on the grounds!

Hello, Please do not be afraid by our magical mirror in the room 23. It is just a mirror placed by the artist JB Oudry to protect and save an old painting by Watteau which represents a libertine tale by the famous author Jean de La Fontaine. The mechanism is modern because the fresco was discovered recently in 1992. Best regards, Aymeri

The weather forecast was not good so we decided to visit this chateau over the weekend inbetween champagne tasting. It is definitely worth a visit as it's not far from Epernay and the gardens are beautiful. We opted for the audio tour in English, which was a little weird to say the least......the paintings by Watteau are fab and there are some quirky features (I won't spoil it - you will just have to visit!). It's nice to visit a place that is lived in by a real family!

The Chateau is family owned and lived in. They are trying to make improvements, but they still have a way to go. It is not a luxurious Chateau, but is interesting. The tour is self conducted and should only take 30 to 45 minutes. Be sure to ask about what is behind the mirror and was lost for over three hundred years. i won't give it away. See for yourself.

Hello StanR, thank you very much for your contribution. You are totally right we have still a long way to go.. It is the challenge of this kind of private Chateau in France. Have you ever been to Vaux le Vicomte castle ? I think it is the best real private and luxurious Chateau in France. Next time I recommend you to use our free Mp3 family audio guide to embellish your visit. If you come with little children do not miss our treasure hunt, 3 pistes are availlable : the green one for children from 3 to 5, the blue trail for boys and girls from 6 to 11, and the red one for young people from 12 to 77. If you do a self conducted visit with our mp3, the tour is about 45 mn, but if you do also a treasure hunt in the Parc it will take you 45 mn more ;-).

We were looking for walks in the area and thought we would try the grounds of the Chateau. My husband is in a wheelchair, and the only access was through a very narrow black door which would necessitate folding the chair to enter. So I entered to ask if it was possible to walk (with the wheelchair) in the gardens and how much it would cost. I was informed that there were no gardens because there were no flowers so I should call it a park. I asked the price and was told "The usual price." We will not be going back.

We had an excellent guided tour through this jewel of a small chateau in the Champagne country. Our tour guide was a specialist not only in history but also in art history and she made the story of the chateau and its people truly come alive through her great storytelling and enthusiasm. So our Bastille Day tour was memorable! Congratulations!
