Great square in the middle of town with a lot of options for dining and drinks. This is an ideal spot to have a glass of wine with cheese and charcuterie in the afternoon. The people watching is great as it's a mix of locals and tourists.

The city of Tours offers better bars, restaurants and shops than you will find around Place Plumereau. On the other hand you won’t find any better photo ops than these old timbered houses..

Place Plumereau is pretty big square which located in the very center of the Old town. Old Town of Tours is not too big and everything whatever you have to see can be easily visited in one day. Such many cafes, bars and restaurants are in this square and in the surrounding pedestrian streets. A popular place for locals and tourists, but noisy, a bit dirty, tables are close to each other.
Place surrounded by numerous half-timbered medieval houses and heart of the very much alive nightlife.

Place Plumereau is a very attractive square. Beautiful architecture. We visited mid August and during midday and evening it was just too busy for me. Plenty of spaces if you wanted to eat there. I simply preferred the quieter areas.

This is a very picturesque and very live area of Tours old town. It has a typical medieval look of France with its cute half timbered houses.
It becomes very alive at night as there're plenty of bars and restaurants of all types.

The very essence of France! Gorgeous old buildings with lots of places to eat. Central square can get very busy so it's worth checking out the side roads for bistros and cafes. An excellent gelateria on one corner.

aka place "Plume" - a very happening spot. We dropped by on a Wednesday afternoon and all the patios were packed. I don't know if this was normal, or due to the school semester finishing or the pandemic easing up, or just the weather being so beautiful - there was lots of energy. Great place for a drink in a very historic part of France.

Great place for a coffee or a drink. I wouldn’t eat to any of the restaurants though. The coffee place les trois rois offers a large choice of coffee and drinks (mock tails and cocktails)
One goes there to enjoin the medieval and local atmosphere.

This is a medieval section of town that is historically preserved and has examples of so many different architectural buildings that it becomes mind boggling! The half-timbered structures are not only fansating, they are beautiful. It is hard to believe that they have survived given their construction materials and the side by side construction. One fire could have leveled the entire area!
This is a walking tour. There are some "suggested walks" that you may consider, burt you can easily get off track and easily find gems on your own. There are so many different uses for the first floors of the old buildings that it defies your imagination--yet it fills the diverse needs of the 21st century inhabitants. This is a place where many people live their daily lives. It is an interesting and educational opportunity--do not miss it.

Don't. This is a review from Place Pomerau, but if you're reading this, you're probably considering Tours as your home base in the Loire. When you go to a old city in Europe, you expect that the city center (almost always the oldest part of the town) will be pleasant, charming, full of good (albeit tourist-y restaurants).
Place Pomerau is practically the city center of old Tours, and it's terrible. There is not a single interesting attraction, it's full of really bad restaurants (I went to a few well regarded ones, and they were all really bad), it's dirty, full of drunkyards. The medieval archtecture you see in the pictures? Something like 10 buildings. If your thing is bad bars that are open till really late (something you won't find easily in France), that's your place; if not, just pick somewhere else.
My advice is to take a look at Amboise and Blois. They are close to the chateaus, and are waaaay nicer cities. Hope this helps.
