Very nice collection

We were pleasantly surprised to find such a good collection outside of a major city. The art is terrific, and it is displayed beautifully. The landscaped grounds are also lovely.

There are good paintings from quite a wide range of periods / styles so if you like art galleries this is worth a visit. But it is telling that the most memorable sights are a giant cedar tree and a stuffed elephant, neither of which are in the main body of the musee.

A fascinating mixture of paintings and furniture with some quality pieces well worth seeing. Items are hung well and the modern collection is particularly good. The building itself is of interest. From the upper floor windows you get a really good view of the outside of the cathedral - it is so close you can see the carvings on the... More

Not a lot of art that I care for, but it was a rainy day and the building is interesting. There's also a lot of exquisite furniture.

Although small, this museum is well worth the visit. There is a wide array of artists, furniture and china. We saw Rembrandt, Rubens, Vuillard, Monet and many, many more. There is also an amazing tree across from the entrance that is not to be missed.

The Museum and Art Gallery in Tours is certainly worth a visit. The museum is behind a large gate situated next to the magnificient Cathedral St.Gathien. It is situated in a beautiful part of old Tours and is surrounded by superb gardens which include a monster Cedar Tree. The gardens back onto the remains of the Roman-Gallo walls of Tours.... More

Well worth spending an hour inside this museum if you are somewhat knowledgable about art. The collection has a little of everything from Roman to modern art. Highlights include: A centuries old staircase in the center of the building. An exceptional trompe l'oeil effect desk. Interesting history paintings of Tours. Top quality medieval devotional pieces. A room of realistic zoological... More

The hôtel the museum is housed in is lovely and manageable. You could easily do the museum in an hour/hour and a half. They have a large range of periods and artists represented in the museum (including a painting of Christ's crucifixion by Degas). The garden in front of the museum is beautiful too - well maintained with a gorgeous... More

The museum's collection is fairly dull, but there is an impressive Cedar of Lebanon in the courtyard and a curiosity (a stuffed elephant) in one of the outhouses. The adjoining garden is very pleasant.

So much top quality art in a small, old gallery. I was so surprised to find works of such high calibre outside Paris. The views of the gothic cathedral through the open windows are great. The views of the gardens below not to be missed. There is a huge cedar of Lebanon tree outside; it has to be supported with... More
