I could write forever on the perfection of this chateau. Built over the River Cher, you'll believe you are in a fairytale story where the impossible comes true. Knowing the history of the occupants brings the history to the present as you really get the...More

the castle is gorgeous, but the gardens is even more so. they were designed by two women - the 1st was the mistress of the King, the second was his wife (Katherine di Medici). Both women tried to outdo each other, both inside the castle...More

The castle is stunning, the setting on the river Cher is so beautiful. But.. what an unfriendly staff, don't ask them anything, they won't answer.Especially the staff at the desk of the audio tour.... rude, uninterested, treating visitors with a question like they are so...More

The castle is very beautiful. One can see from all 4 angles and depending upon the sunlight the castle bristles one side and calm on the other. The lawns outside is on a small canal and many families came and just laze around with children...More

This is a beautiful chateau / castle in the Loire Valley. We did visit in the "off season" month of December but that meant less crowds. The downside is the restaurant was closed, and of course, no flowers in bloom, but that didn't take away...More

Chateau de Chenonceau is absolutely amazing! The chateau, the gardens, the floral arrangements throughout, the attention to detail reflect the fact that women were in charge of its planning, construction and maintenance for over 300 years. This chateau is the most beautiful one that I...More

The history of the women caretakers clearly show in this beautiful and well maintained gem. The surrounding gardens and floral arrangements are lovely and add much to the decor. Lots of artwork and antiques furnish the many rooms, this is a must see if you...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
We just want to view and photograph the outside of the Chateau de Chenonceau without going inside. Where is the entrance fee required? Is it only the interior of the Chateau that you need to pay to see, meaning that we could walk around the surrounding area fairly freely?

Unfortunately, the Chateau is deep within the park, so getting any sort of decent pictures is impossible. I would estimate the distance between the ticket booth and the Chateau to be at least 1/4 mile, if not 1/2 mile. I... More

Some of the reviews mention a guide, but I could not see mention of a guide on the Chateau's website. Is this a service provided at the Chateau or something you have to book elsewhere? We would need an English-speaking guide and will be visiting in June 2017. Also, someone else has mentioned a sound and light show in June - I cannot see any mention of that. If anyone has information on that, I would appreciate it.
