One of the best Chateaus to Visit
We toured several Chateaus and this was by far the best. Both inside and outside it is a great experience. They have done an amazing job maintaining the Chateau. I would highly recommend this as one of the Chateaus you visit while in the area.

Magnificent, if you only see one Chateau make it this one
The Chateau - and the setting - is magnificent! (The Gardens are okay) It was a living. working place and much loved by its owner. Much more real than the massive hunting palaces built for billions (of taxpayers' money) by bad monarchs (particularly Francois 1) who visited a handful of days a year, if that (eg Chambord); or contemptible mistresses (eg Cheverny)

One of the top Chateaux experiences in the Loire
Stunning Chateau, amazing location and excellently curated visiting experience. This is a must see in the region. We only visited the main Chateau, the surrounding outbuildings and garden but other activities such as kayaking between the bridge looks spectacular.

Lovely walkway up to the Chateau
We pre-purchased timed tickets online for the Chateau and for the audio guides for 10:45 am. We were staying in Amboise and took the 9:52 am bus from the bus stop on Ave of the Martyrs of the Resistance across from the Theater in Amboise for 3 Euros each, paid in cash to the driver. School students were on the bus and dropped off briefly on the way to the Chateau. We arrived at the Chateau at about 10:25 and then walked 15 minutes up the tree lined walkway to the Chateau. We moved along on the audio tour because we had to walk back to the bus stop for the 12:25 bus, but it worked out well and was sufficient time. There was not much in bloom in the gardens. The Chateau was interesting but fairly crowded.

    Wonderful historic chateau
We pre-booked an early time slot (9.15) so had the advantage of avoiding the crowds I’m sure this place attracts. It is a stunning chateau with lovely gardens. The history is really interesting and it’s well worth taking the audio headset option. Highly recommend a visit.

On The Footsteps of Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici
There are many castles along the Loire River but this one is definitely one of the must sees in terms of its history as well. In fact, the information pertaining to the history of the castle together with its main characters such as Diane de Poitiers and Catherine de Medici and Louise de Lorraine are very well documented and exhibited inside. Though it is highly recommended to book the visit earlier, as we were there in April, we did not encounter any problem nor any waiting periods despite the fact we did not have any earlier bookings. We parked our car in the parking zone which is both large and free and walked to the entrance which is quite a distance but it's a nice road covered with trees and there are no hills or anything, just a straight gravel road. We did not wait at the ticket purchase area. Entrance to the indoor section of the castle was announced to take place every 30 minutes (even if you will visit on your own without a guide) but once we get there, we were allowed to enter without waiting for the start time. The gardens are as enchanting as the castle itself. The wisteria covered cottage in the gardens is simply dreamy (it was full bloom in April when). If you want to grab a bite, there are café like places behind the self service restaurant. There is also a cave if you're interested in wines. There are donkeys at the outer skirts of the gardens which children seem to adore. The castle souvenir shop is not impressive.

Worth the trip to this Chateau
Audio tour was well worth it at this Chateau! Loved the castle but enjoyed more given the audio tour and perspective of the woman that did many renovations on the chateau. The views from the windows were amazing over the river and the kitchen fascinating. One of the best castles.

If you can only see one Château this is the one
We took the recommendation of many guides and travelers and make this the focus of our visit to the Loire region. We bought tickets in advance and entered at opening time. We enjoyed no lines and limited crowds - and all that quickly changed so getting there early was worthwhile. While the Chateau rooms are amazing, we most enjoyed the "downstairs" servant areas and the banquet room that stretches over the river. We also enjoyed the gardens and especially the farm area (probably an area skipped by many folks).

    Best Chateau to visit
If you just have time to visit one Loire Chateau, I'd go for this one. The location is magnificent. I found parking and access to Chateau easy. The Chateau itself is small, which is not a bad thing when you're not a specialist. You can stroll along the river. As usual, better to go there early if you can.

Amazing castle. Pre purchase tickets and go early to avoid crowds.
We had a great time at this castle. We pre purchased tickets for 9:30am and really enjoyed exploring the castle with smaller crowds with only a few people per room.We highly recommend the audio tour! It is really well done with the combination of audio and video. Also going early, the parking was wide open. Take your time after exploring the castle and walk around the gardens, the labyrinth and farm. Of all the castles in the area, we enjoyed this one the most.

This is an amazing place.
I have seen so many photographs of the Château and it really is better in real life.
Wander around the grounds, try the maze, look in the Château and stop for a crêpe at La Gloriette.
I had a citron, sucré crêpe with a café crème and they were delicious. The man and woman that were serving were so nice.
Alternatively, there is a restaurant serving food.
Don't forget to take the obligatory photographs of the Château.
Incidentally, the toilets at the entrance do not cater for many people. There ate two cubicles for men and three cubicles for women so plan ahead.
There is a gift shop with a good selection.
This was a great place to visit.

Beautiful, relaxed, more delicate, and enhanced by history of Catherine de Medici....this is how I describe Chenonceau. We enjoyed the setting along the river, the kitchens area, the office and green room of Catherine, as well as the black bedroom (mourning). The setting is extraordinary, you can see why it was chosen, and you can see why Catherine and Diane enjoyed being here.
This was second in our organized Loire trip and it was on par with our first stop, Chambord. Chambord is more amazing for its intricate architecture and planning, Chenonceau is more of a delight to see what you find. They are different but equal. Thirdly we stopped at Cheverny that was not up to the same level of interest at all.
Tips:
1) Consider eating lunch first, then going through chateau. Our tour of course went through chateau first, and got into line for lunch right ahead of us, as did everyone else. If you can time your touring right, you can eat in peace and then have the chateau in some peace as well, simply by flipping around your approach in this way.
2) We visited January 2nd and Christmas decor still up. It is really impressive. It is known as one of the best decorated for holidays. Yes, that is true! If you are devoted to such holiday decor, you may take as many pics of that as the chateau itself.
3) Go into the garden. The best views are from the garden back toward the chateau.

This visit is also a must for tourists in Loire valley. Really an elegant castle above the water. It is not for nothing that several very famous ladies of French history have left their mark, both on the construction and the furniture.

VERY crowded, even when we would consider it off season, but glad we went.
The grounds are lovely.
Entrance fee is 15.50 , you are given a time slot for your visit.
There is a small donkey sanctuary on the grounds that we enjoyed.
We were glad that we read about the history and property before we went, if you have time, we recommend that you do also.

This site is more than just a chateau. In addition to the castle, the grounds are extensive. If you have a chance to look at a map of the property before you go, you can plot the path that suits you best. We went on a hot day and so we only managed to see the chateau and one side of the grounds (the one with the farm and all the outbuildings). If you go in warm weather, I would recommend a hat and hand-held fan. Also, wear good footwear for walking. Not only will you be walking the grounds, but there is a walk from the parking lot to the chateau. It's an amazing property and you want to be able to enjoy it all.

We enjoyed our visit tremendously. Although this was by far the most crowded attraction in the Loire Valley it is gorgeous and should not be missed. The chateau itself is interesting especially the story of Catherine de Medici and Diane de Poitiers. On top of the furniture the florist of the castle is really incredible. The garden is huge with many spits to sit down to relax and have a snack.

This is a very beautiful chateau. It is unique in that it is partially built over a river. It also has a really interesting history which I recommend you research before you go. The guide is outstanding and helps tell story of this 600 year old structure.
The gardens are stunning. Fresh,
fragrant flowers from the gardens are placed in large arrangements in each room of the house each week.
There is also a working farm on site that you can tour, as well as a large vegetable and flower raising garden, and even a donkey park with some cute donkeys munching away. Well worth a three hour visit. We would go again just to see it in the spring.

Gorgeous and historic chateau perfectly positioned over the river. Very engaging interpretation. Well tended gardens. The downside, however, is the wine cellar -- we were interested in possibly doing a tasting and buying some wine but the one woman working there was busy with a private tasting. There was no sign to indicate how long this might take, and no other staff available to help us. We lingered a bit, then managed to get her attention to say we wanted to buy wine, but she brusquely said she was occupied with the private tasting and turned away. A more helpful response would have been appreciated. Instead we left and bought wine elsewhere. Did not feel valued as a visitor and potential customer.

Not just another chateau, this is the one to see. However the number of visitors was close to the maximum tolerable level, and yet there was no problem in getting a ticket. The cafe was surprisingly good.
