The day we went it was Jour de Patrimone so there were dozens of people about. Did not go inside but despaite the crowd, we would not have missed it.

Azay le Rideau is a picture postcard Chateau – framed beautifully by tall, elegant green trees and mystically reflected in the calm waters of the river Indre which flow all around it. Captivated on sight - we twisted and turned to shoot her from her...More

A surprise to find it was a free entry day ... was busy but quite tolerable. When I last visited I thought the place dark and ominous, we had a guide who spoke French and kept on and on and all pretty heavy going. This...More

Just finished a major restoration, this chateau is a magnificent example of this period. The interior contains some interesting features and automatons and the grounds are perfect to view the chateau from all aspects.

It was our first visit to a Renaissance chateau. We enjoyed the location, the gardens and the visit. The guided visit in these chateaux is the best option, if available and if the schedule allows it. Wear comfortable shoes in these visits.

Possibly the most beautiful chateau in the Loire, I was particularly impressed by the roof superstructure, All giant oak beaks put together with absolute precision. Fantastic. Great water setting.

So its not huge and the grandest in the Loire, but it is a great little chateaux. We visited on a lovely sunny day and it was gorgeous, sitting there surrounded by water, its stone walls gleaming. Sits nicely in the town without dominating it,...More
