Scouts were all over the place during our visit. The basilica was being cleaned when we were there as the limestone gets very dingy over time.

Study a map before you go and determine which parking lot, that you pay for parking, you want to stop at as the internal city is car free for visitors. Also determine if you really want to walk the ramparts/exterior of the town. We thought...More

Lovely basilica full of history and quite spectacular when bearing in mind the time it was built. It is free to enter. There are lovely views from the terrace on which the Basilica is situated and the walk along the main street is entertaining itself.

This was on our list to visit because we really wanted to experience a hill top village. This was so much more. When we got to the Basilique, there was a group of students visiting. At a certain point of their tour, they all stood...More

The approach to the Basilica is up a steep hill. It is well worth the climb as the building is outstanding both outside and inside. The last time we came here it was under wraps receiving restoration. They have done a superb job.

A beautiful basilica providing absolutely amazing views out across the valley from the terrace behind the church. Beautiful village and a great place for a visit whilst on your travels!

The basilica exudes age and atmosphere both inside and out. The ancient stone carving, especially the column capitals in the nave and narthex is unequaled in my experience. Anyone interested in medieval history should visit here.

Unfortunately it's at least a 7 hour drive from Cannes to Vezelay. Even going by train to Dijon and then hiring a car, it's just not possible in a day, let alone within the time you have available. If you're interested in... More

Vezelay is not easy to get to without a car, and it's a long way from Cannes. A TGV train to Dijon and then hire a car would be about the only way to do it, and even then you would spend most of the day travelling. The... More
