Like a picture post card, beautiful views of endless vineyards, stopped by for picnic. There are benches every so often along the road.

You can do the Route des Grands Crus by car or on bike - we’ve tried both, And loved both,

The Route is a legendary stretch of road passing by dozens of wine fields, world class wineries and idyllic small villages. Especially Nuits-Saint-Georges is like a fairytale.

Stop by some of the wineries and taste the mouthwatering wines. Around Beaune the white wines are best, around Dijon they focus more on red wines.

You need a car to drive this route but you’ll be rewarded with lovely views of expansive vineyards and the wine business in action. Places to pull out along the way to park and picnic. We didn’t stop in for tastings but if you enjoy Burgundy wines, then this is a must!

A fabulous and unforgettable route but poorly signposted. If you do not have a detailed map (go to the tourist office) you will often get lost.
The most beautiful part is the southern part between Santenay and Beaune. With a rented (e) bike the route, called la voie vert a velo, is even more spectacular and much better signposted.

January is probably not the most exiting month to drive through the countryside of Burgundy, and there are other wine districts that are more beautiful. However, the enjoyment of passing by villages with familiar names that you associate with high quality wine is not to be underestimated. Many of the villages are very pretty in themselves and there are endless possibilities to stop for a tasting of high quality wines. Now I will appreciate my glass of cold Meursault even more.

Gevrey Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, Pommard, Meursault... Every amateur of wine knows these great names. But what many don't realize is that these names are actual places, real villages. This wine route allows you to discover this great region, but also to submerge yourself in the famous wineyards. Especially in November (when the weather is nice), when the vine become multicoloured...

We were the only two who signed up so had a private tour with Phillips of Vine & Voyages tour company. He did an outstanding job and it was both fun and informative. Highly recommend.

The Climat de Bourgogne, now listed on the UNESCO world heritage is this unique 600km trail of never ending vineyards which produce among the best and most prestigious wines in the world. Ideally visited by bicycle, we went by car as temperature hit 37 degrees C. Enchanting ride by all means.
