Really pleased we ventured out of the old town and saw the tower, the setting of the surroundings are beautiful and what a history! We bought a ticket at the castle and got in free here as one of the other reviewers suggested, many thanks! The steps inside are quite steep and a lot of them, but the rooms on... More

We saw a photo in a shop window in St Malo of Solidor Tower, and asked about it which then prompted our visit. Whilst as the crow flies it's not that far from St. Malo old town, in the car it took 25 minutes each way as you have to drive into the town, then back out towards Dinard. A... More

Some great models of tall ships although somewhat minimalist due to the layout of the tower. A lot of steps up to the top but the views are great and well worth the trip. This is free in if you have visited the Musee du Chateau.

If you have ever liked stories about pirates or travels (in pirate times) you will probably like it :) There are many models of ships from different times. As in my childhood I read a lot of sea-travel books I watched these models with great pleasure it was a bit like taking me back to those times. Besides ship models... More

Situated in quiet St Servan, to the south of St Malo, le Tour Solidor has a fairytale quality. Inside, there is a maritime museum which is totally in french. That being said, it is still interesting to look around, but the highlight is the view from the balcony at the top of the tower, which gives panoramic views of the... More

This is in a nice area of St Malo which we visit on hired bicycles. Good cafes nearby, and sometimes a flea market. The museum itself is well laid out and informative.

This tower shows some of the maritime history of the area particularly the sailors who went around Cape Horn and to Canada - it is all in French and the little brochure in English sadly wasnt much help - BUT the view from the top of the tower is worth the climb - we are seniors but managed it well.

If you like ships and the history of shipping, this is a wonderful place. It is devoted to the history of ships which navigated Cape Horn for scientific and trading purposes. There are some excellent model ships with detailed explanations of the development of shipbuilding, and the different types of mercantile trade, from the 1500's up to the 20th century.... More

When you purchase a ticket at Fort National, you gain free entry at Tour Solidor. Whilst the the display is similar to that of Fort National, its makes no allowance, if French is not your first language. Thus, the only advantage over the Fort National is that the Tour offers the ability to take photos.
