The real reason to go to Concarneau. Middle Age fortified town with access around the walls. Nice small shops inside as well as excellent restaurants and Fish Museum.

Arriving at the city's harbor, and seeing this enormous ,walled city is amazing. It's enormous, and inside is the "old" city. Several restaurants and small shops along the main street. At the end of the long street is a ferry that brings you to the...More

Although at first glance it seems that this is just another fort, when you cross the moat to the entrance, it takes on a different feeling. There were musicians playing in the courtyard and lovely flowers growing there. You then pass through the entrance, you...More

Lovely place to visit as a tourist. It really is a tourist destination with gift shops and individual clothes shops. The catering was surprisingly good, even a simple gallette was delicious andthe local ciders were good but highly priced as one would expect.

From the outside, or from the air, this is a fortification that demands respect (helicopter views when the Tour passed through in July were spectacular) The visit at ground level reveals a very touristy place that doesn't satisfy at all. The remparts are free to...More

We were taken here by friends on a recent visit to Brittany. You enter the area across a causeway and were immediately greeted by a group playing some music which stopped us in our tracks as it was a pleasant sound. Tearing ourselves away we...More

This small island is the founding place for Concarneau. A fortified island, designed by Vauban, it defended the port for centuries and several wars. Today, the interior of the walls are a bit like Downtown Disney, lots of shops and Bistros. Even if the off...More
