This could not be more perfect - lovely stroll along the wonderful beach, with intriguing bars and restaurants hidden down the side alleys. We liked that bikes are not allowed, so it’s you and other pedestrians. Against a backdrop of the Pyrenees, it’s perfect.

Pleasant walk on a 400 year old fortification. This reinforces the two main things about St Jean de Luz.... First it's old and strategic to France.... Second it is a superlatively lovely place

My wife and I took a lovely walk along this promenade. It was made even more special thanks to the cooperation of the weather. This is a worthwhile stroll if you go to St. Jean de Luz.

Jacques Thibaud promenade, which runs from Pavlovsky’s red Art Deco lighthouse to the Pergola, is fronted by red-shuttered town houses with their footbridges looking out over the Grande Plage and one of France’s most beautiful bays.
A lovely place to take in the wonderful atmosphere. Well worth a good stroll here.

There are at least four very worthwhile walks by Saint-Jean-de-Luz: strolling through the pedestrian only central street Rue Gambetta; a walk up to the hill of Saint-Barbe for the views; a walk around the port and all the way to the fort of Socoa and last, but not least, a walk up and down the Promenade Jacques Thibaud along the sandy beach Grande Plage.

The pedestrian only, but quite wide promenade with earth coloured concrete and traditional street lights at regular intervals goes parallel to the beach from the Art Deco lighthouse by the port entrance up to the Hotel Bel-Air. All along are several interesting information boards about Saint-Jean-de-Luz and its history. The promenade is a bit elevated from the beach, which is reached by steps at certain points. On the other side of the promenade are mostly traditional style houses and some hotels.

The promenade is named after Jacques Thibaud, one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Born in Bordeaux, giving concerts all over the world, he had in his later years Saint-Jean-de-Luz as residence. In 1953 he was killed in an airplane crash, when Air France 178 flew into a mountain before landing at Nice.

No visit to the seaside is complete without a walk along the beach-front, and Saint-Jean-de-Luz is no different. A lovely walk on a nice day!

This promenade along the Atlantic passes hotels, shops, and restaurants. It gives you lovely views of the beach and ocean. There are lots of cafes where it's very pleasant to enjoy a glass of wine while you enjoy the scenery and people-watching.

It's near big beach. You can go there easily. It's a funny invention to avoid going down the street and going to the beach directly.

Great walk along the boardwalk. The beach didn't seem crowded, even though it was a beautiful sunny day (lots of space to spread out). The houses by the beach were super cute. I envisioned waking up in the morning, stepping out the door and across the little bridge for a morning run on the beach. How perfect!
