Massive structure inside and out. Not really the type of architecture you would expect. Very large Sat morning market is just outside one entrance.

The cathedral is a magnificent building visible from a number of areas through the city. It is worth visiting inside to appreciate the scale of the building.

We stopped in here at the end of the self-guided tour of the medieval city. They have a booklet you can buy for about 20 cents that gives an excellent explanation of this very interesting cathedral, and has you follow a circuit around the church....More

France has fine examples of churches and cathedrals established over many centuries. This one is very different and dominates the centre of the city. Interesting internal layout and shouldn’t be missed

This Cathedral in the middle of Periguex is not one of the spectacular cathedrals like Reims or Chartres. We spent a short time looking round it after visiting the market. It has a rather amazing carved wooden alter. It had a rather “ Moorish” feel...More

The byzantine style domes provide an impressive space inside. There was a free organ recital filling the church with dramatic music. Some of the stained glass windows are brightly coloured whilst others simple.

The size of the cathedral, the harmony of the building and the mixture of influences, altogether makes this cathedral one of the most beautiful from the Middle Ages in Europe. Even if it is not in your trip plans I advise you to do a...More
