Although there is a fairly stiff walk down to the chateau, it is a nicely presented ruin with an interesting selection of medieval games (think ring-tosse or skittles) that the kids can play in one of the halls, and a great little film about the...More

We loved the visit, especially seeing the development of a fortified Chateau over the ages. The chateau is built above troglodyte cave shelters, which in themselves are very interesting. Yes the walk from the carpark to the chateau is longish and uphill on the way...More

Having walked 600 metres down a difficult track with loose stones and quite an incline, we were dismayed to get to the castle and find there were lots of stairs to climb to get to the actual site. As reasonably fit 70 year olds we...More

Dear Visitors, We are very sorry your experience did not satisfy you. This is true that these days are exceptionally hot every where outside in Dordogne. Unfortunately you maybe didn't take advantage of the multiple bench disposed on the path which is in the shadow,...More

Spent a beautiful afternoon at this Chateau, there is a lot of walking involved, bring water and hat. The history is extraordinary and the views are breathtaking. Take a guided tour because there is so much to take in!

This is not your typical fancy Chateaux all decked out with furniture and paintings, but rather is one in ruins that is slowly being restored. The sight sits on some pre-historic caves that contain rock carvings and paintings. The Romans built on top of this,...More

castle chateau built on top of prehistoric cave dwelling ruins, very interesting place. long hill walk in/out (unless you use disabled car park) but then still have to go up a lot of stairs to enter. well worth a visit.

This is a privately owned castle ruin undergoing reconstruction. Its in the heart of pre-historic cave country where Cro Magnon people painted and sculpted beautiful art as early as 22,000 BC. It's worth a visit for the gorgeous valley it overlooks and the feeling of...More

We stayed a week in Beynac, so we toured Chateau de Beynac. We had kids with us, and they loved the suits of armor and trebuchets at Castelnaud, but I think everyone in our group enjoyed Chateau de Commarque best. We would have liked to...More
