People are spoiled by the huge number of decorated caves in the area. This is a fantastic place with some beautiful carvings, the lioness especially.

The drawings in the cave were fascinating, but the amenities and explanations/pictures could have been more arresting prior to the cave. Being October and cold might have added to the forlorn and desolate feeling that the grounds around the cave projected.

Decorations start 70 meters from the entrance, subjects depicted range very widely: From the more common bisons, horses, aurochs, mammoths and reindeer, to some spectacular...More

We had picked 3 caves to go too, and this was one of them. We weren't disappointed. They allow only a limited number of people to visit at a time, but well worth it. You purchase your tickets at Font de Gaume and then it...More

Firstly, like many caves with original prehistoric paintings, you'll need to check to see if tickets could and should be booked in advance, or not. Bookings for Font de Gaume and Combarelles and Cap Blanc open in January for the season, and by March all...More

An excellent collection of images from pre-history. Worth a detour and easier to get tickets for than Font de Gaume.
