Beautiful church in the middle of the town square. It has some lovely architecture. It is very striking from the outside.

One of the nicer churches in Biarritz. Also, one of the 5 with Sunday mass, and 11am is a good time. The other church had it at 9:30. There must be shortage of priests here since masses are devided between 6 churches in Biarritz.

This church is great you can see it from the seaport. A visit is nice too, but avoiding service hours.

Really nice church, which a mix of architectural design, set in a nice Biarritz square, overlooking the coast. Has a sunken chapel. Very picturesque.

This church was completed in 1903 (although the bell tower was a later addition in the early 1930's) and sits on the top of the cliff overlooking the Fisherman's Port. This church replaced a chapel dedicated to Saint Eugenie which had been built in the mid 19th century.

The exterior of this stone church has a large double entry portal with a semi-circular tympanum above it with various saints depicted on it. There are smaller portals on either side also with semi-circular tympanums. There is a huge stained glass window above the main portal and above this the bell tower. There are smaller rose windows above the two side portals. There is some lovely decoration on the roof covering the area between the small side towers at each corner and the bell tower.

Inside there is a single nave with a side aisle either side. There are stone columns with archways separating the nave from the aisles. The nave has a very high rib vaulted ceiling.

The main altar is lovely with touches of gold without being overly ornate. The organ sits behind the altar.

There is an ex-voto devotional gift of a sailing ship hanging from the ceiling in the nave.

Perhaps though the most striking feature of this church is the many beautiful stained glass windows.

To be fair, I’ve seen more impressive churches. But the location, immediately next to the maritime port, is awesome. And on closer inspection, the stained glass windows are very pretty and in great shape, and look at the lace-like iron door hinges. A nice church in a great location.

Says it all really. When you walk around Biarritz and come to the place Eugénie it is really surprising to see such an impressive church.

However when you go inside it’s surprisingly ‘dull’ on the inside (ok, in comparison to some of the great churches, like Reims... Bayeux...).

Anyway... it’s there. Go take a look.

This church can be seen from almost anywhere on the beach promenade, located just next to the old fishing harbour.

The inside is rather dull but still pretty. You can see it's a sailor/fishermen church...

Because of the color of the stone, this church appears to be filled with light. The many stained glass windows add to the peaceful effect. Just beautiful!

The Eugenie Chapel was built in the Romanesque-Byzantine style and was named after Saint Eugenia, the patron saint of Napoléon III’s wife, Empress Eugénie de Montijo. The current church was finished in 1903. It has great window paintings and s crypt.
