Nice landmark

I was surprised by this monument. A good pit stop for everyone coz it is nice to look at. I did not see signs about it, which could have made it better.

Beautiful gate and clock within easy walking distance of the center, and on the main shopping street.

Well, almost: a piece of scaffolding fell in 2016 but nobody was hurt. Together with the Porte Cailhau, this is a rare reminder of the Medieval Age in Bordeaux: the original primitive building is from the 13th Century. We sat at Books&Coffee (separate review) near by and admired the passers-by, while taking photos of the Big Bell. The current one... More

Bell located in one of the defensive gateways of Medieval times. History buffs will love the setting.

When walking around Bordeaux, it's definitely worth taking in the sight of this huge, decorative bell. Apparently it only rings 5 or 6 times a year, but I imagine it has an enormous ring!

It's one of the oldest belfries in France. The bell was cast in 1775 and weights over 7.5 tons. It's called "Armande-Louis" and it rings for major celebrations and on first Sunday of every month. The gateway where the bell is hung served as a prison in middle ages. The gateway is open to the public.

Bordeaux has a few gateways into the old town area, each one is unique and worth seeing. This one is stunning with its grand tower structure, bell and clock. The photos are worth the visit and this is definitely picturesque.

Wow! What a wonderful clock - tells the date, too. I walked through the arch, admired the unusual paving and then took photos from the tourist bus

The Lafargue area is really nice, cute and the atmosphere is great around the Apollo bar or the Cueva bar in the rue Sainte Colombe
