Certainly unusual. Very modern in the heart of traditional Bordeaux. Bit Marmitey - love it or hate it. Ha car park & toilets. Useful focus & navigational aid. Street around has several cafes/bistots in pedestrianised setting

To the west of the Grand Théâtre, and bonded by the Cours Georges Clemenceau, the Allées de Tourny and the Cours de l'Intendance is the so-called 'Triangle d'Or', a very chic shopping district. In its middle stands an attractive round building with a glass dome, the shopping centre 'Grands Hommes'. This refers to the fact that it stands on the Place des Grands Hommes, which again got its name from the fact that here four streets converge, all named after one of four pre-eminent thinkers: Montaigne, Montesquieu, Voltaire and Rousseau. They are the 'Grands Hommes'.

The attractive 'centre commercial' opened in 1992, replacing an older market structure of concrete. It is said that it was inaugurated by Queen Elizabeth II, who happened to be in Bordeaux with her yacht Britannia. On two levels around a circular courtyard can be found various boutiques, also one by Baillardran selling the famous 'cannelés' of Bordeaux. There is also a restaurant and on ground level a Carrefour supermarket. The centre is open daily except Sundays, from 8am to 7pm.

Set in the middle of some lovely buildings, this mall is a very modern construction. It does not fit the area at all. Inside there are hardly any stores and the basement is a supermarket......nothing to see here

This is a grand shopping centre. It's got many well known brands or shops, including a huge supermarket. The history of the building is quite interesting. Its name comes from the fact it is named after the surrounding streets which bear names of famous philosophers, like Montesquieu and Voltaire, or grands hommes (great men). Its origins go back to the 19th century, when people would buy their fresh produce in this area where a Market had been set up. Finally a brand new building opened in 1991. Definitely worth visiting.

It was exactly as I remembered but I liked it more this time. The supermarket is the best part and the bakery selling dunes. We had lunch there, on the lower level. Nothing spectacular but adequate and good value, especially for the office workers. Friendly service and a glass of wine elevate it from the usual N America food court type lunch place. The building is modern and spotless. Ritzy area with excellent shopping and window shopping.

Cute space with some interesting shops. It's a nice landmark for getting your bearings around the city, and there are several nice shops and restaurants surrounding it. There is a Carrefour in the basement level -- a welcome find for buying essentials like bottled water and snacks to take back to our hotel room or eat on the road!

Named Big Men in honour of 19th century French philosophers the round building is quite old but has been modernized in the 1980's covering much of the original style. There is a supermarket downstairs and boutiques on ground floor, one of them selling the Bordeaux speciality caneles, small dark pastries with religious origins dating back centuries. They look soft and sweet but are actually quite hard to bite into.

This is a smaller shopping area near the Tourist center. This hasn't got the items you will find in the Promonade St. Catherine but they do have a fruit and vegetable market in the building.

Marche des Grands Hommes is a large shopping center on Place des Grands Hommes. The dome-shaped center is attractive with large departmental stores, fresh fruit shops and other market stalls are available inside. Carrefour is occupying the lower ground floor for busy. For tourist delight, toilets are available downstairs and free of charge.

Attractive shopping centre in the golden triangle. Useful fresh market and supermarket in the basement. Public toilets, too.
