    Interesting and Charming
This market had many stalls with different wares. Earlier in the day is better. It's located near the Little Venice area. The amount of time spent here will vary (less than an hour to more than an hour) with your interest and whether you stop for a coffee or food. Restrooms are available here but expect to find a line.

Very nice market to explore with many choices
Stopped in for a quick bite while touring Colmar. We had made to order spätzle and split a medium order which was enough for the two of us and quite delicious! The stalls in the market offered many options to choose from.

The market is nice and the food relatively good and genuine. My review is particularly negative because of the rudeness and unfriendliness of the staff from the center stand "LEGUMEZ-MOI". I ordered several dishes for me and my family (including little kids) and since there was no free table and i thought i could use one of the tables i asked to have my food packed to go. Eventually i was able to find a free table (they were all used by people without food waiting for their relatives) when I was rudely and aggressively sent away from a waitress because my food was "to go". I offered to pay a price difference (if existent) to sit down but she refused and unpolitely answered that i could not do anything but go... needless to say in other places i saw all people eating their food in cardboard in the market tables without problems. This was unbearable, the rudeness of this person ruined my launch and my experience so please avoid going here

Built in 1865, a work of the architect Louis-Michel Boltz. A splendid architecture constructed with brick and stone.

There is a niche, a fountain at the south-west corner of the market hall, houses the statue of winemaker (Fontaine du Petit Vigneron). The statue is an artwork by Bartholdi, the designer of the Statue of Liberty

When I visited the spot, the red brick building stands alongside the waterway on a sunny autumn day. What a beautiful scenery.

Both the Market architecture and the statue of winemaker are awesome artworks, but often neglected by tourist.

We visited the market about 4 times during our 4 night stay in Colmar.

Twice we brought breakfast with coffee, and ate outside.

We also bought an excellent boxed lunch with generous salad, and items for making lunch and dinner at the apt we had rented - sausage, cheese, fresh produce, wine, fruit.... Everything was fresh and delicious.
Note that one of the large produce kiosks sells several varieties of wine from a certain winery; though they are visible inside the kiosk, you must ask for them - very good value.

Venders were considerate - especially if one says "Bonjour" and "Au revoir".

The best place to shop, grab a bite and escape the cold! We were visiting Colmar for the Christmas Market (which was excellent). We stopped in the Covered Market and grabbed a quick lunch. We sat in the dining area and shared a table with a local family with kids. It was a great lunch and a nice experience to mingle with locals.

We loved browsing all the shopping stalls and bought some mustard for gifts (there were so many choices! Who knew there was Christmas Mustard with gingerbread flavor?)

Don't miss this little opportunity to feel the spirit of Colmar!

Be sure to stop here and se all the beautiful displays of foods, have breakfast or lunch at one of the several small places, enjoy a variety of gift items. Just a walk through is fun. A special spot.

Comar's covered market is enclosed by three streets (Rue des Tanneurs, Rue des Vignerons and Rue des Ecoles) and the river Lauch, which allowed farmers to bring their fresh produce to the market in flat-bottomed boats. They did so until the 1950s. The rather small market hall is an attractive, red brick building dating from 1865. It was designed by architect Louis-Michel Boltz, who was also responsible for Colmar’s Théâtre municipal (1849). Inside the roof is upheld by cast-iron columns.

We only visited to have a look at the architecture, walking all around the building, and didn’t stay long inside. As a market, the place didn’t seem very lively. Tourists staying in self-catering accommodation may find everything they need here but we saw more people taking pictures of the food than actually buying it. There also is a Tunisian and a Vietnamese takeaway, a tapa bar, a little vegetarian restaurant and a place offering Alsatian specialities. But the typical market atmosphere is lacking. There were longs queues at the loos.

The market is open from 8 am to 6 pm on weekdays, except Monday. Saturday it is open from 8 to 5 pm and Sunday from 10 to 2 pm. On Thursday there are also market stalls outside

We were fortunate to visit during the three day fete of the anniversary of the opening of the Marche. Large crowds, sold out hotels and restaurants. We enjoyed the surrounding cadre of merchants who were set up around the Marche. Great wine and exceptional service considering it was all temporary. Large displays of local produce, lambs and goats outside the entrance.

Pretty much whatever you need for a knockout gourmet picnic is available at Colmar's covered market. The biggest problem will be deciding what to buy - there were only two of us and we ended up buying enough food for a family of eight! And of course we ate it all, so delicious. There is a lady (L'etal aux Epices) selling sel de Camargue with her own flavourings, even a lavender-scented variety. Great for gifts. Most of the stalls will let you taste whatever you like, handy with forty types of cheese on hand! You can also eat lunch at the café in the corner, which simply sells fresh salad with farmers bread croutons toasted with a variety of toppings like pate and pear or goat cheese and almonds. Really good. They also sell local wines by the glass. I wish there was a market like this where I live!

My husband and I took a one half hour train ride on a weekday from Strasbourg to Colmar. We didn't have a car(which would have been great to get to the wineries) but, wanted to get a sense of the Alsace Region. Luckily, we found a map of the town (essential)at the Colmar railroad station. It is a good walk from the station. When we got to town, it was overrun with tourists. It was uncomfortable trying to navigate the area because of the crowds. We finally found a less crowded cafe to have lunch and get our bearings. We were planning to see some of the museums and historical sights, but because of the sheer number of people, decided to put it off until another time of year which would be less touristy.
We stumbled upon the very attractive Covered Market. The vendors were selling produce of the Alsace region (Bakery, Cheese, Poultry, Fish,Butcher, Confectioner,Fruits and Vegetables, and Organics..........to name a few). I bought a variety of honeys to take back home for gifts (Sunflower, Chestnut, and Lavender).
After this we walked down a few streets to savor the architecture (Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque). The town itself, sans crowds, is picturesque. One gets the feeling of having walked into and out of a painting.
