As impressive as this cliff sculpture is, as scenic are the views over the city, we happened on it several days after viewing the Lion of Lucerne. If you have a choice, see the latter. If your in Belfort, not only is this not to be missed, it is about the only thing to see. (Confession: we did only have... More

The Lion of Belfort is the main tourist attraction in the town. 20min walk the Gare SNCF train station. You need to climb up the hill to have a good view of the lion and the town. If you driving to the destination, parking area are available at the end of the hill and mid-way.

The Belfort Citadel commands a good portion of the old part of Belfort. We were there a bit off season and were unable to enjoy the subterranean areas of the historic fortress. But the sun was out and the skies were blue, and that was enough for us during the typically dreary part of the year. The Lion is impressive... More

One of the most interesting visits I have had in France and all for free except a few euros to get really close up to the lion well worth it. Views from the top of the fort are amazing walk is stiff but you can drive halfway and park. History of the town told well in the museum and there... More

My Hubster & I were on vacay- but he works in Belfort. He coerced me to walk up to see the Lion (wow!) and then continue to the top of the fort! Totally amazing views from the top! We really enjoyed it!

Were unaware of history of area and were pleasantly surprised by the Lion and Citadel. Quite a hike up to visit but well worth the effort. Lion very different to most monuments and a good landmark, although not lit up at night. Token cost of €1 to visit. The Citadel has excellent views over the surrounding countryside as well as the... It's worth seeing it. The lion is huge. Moreover it's constructed by Auguste Bartholdi (the Father of the Liberty Status in NY). It symbomizes the french resistance in the French-Prussian war of 1870-1871. An imposing symbol of Belfort and its citizens.

Not really friendly because location close from 12h30 up to 14h so not much to see. Lion sculpture is a nice to see but not worth making a detour for it.

It is a sculpture really meant to be seen from a distance. Going up to it the Lion is too large to see well from up close.
