I was walking along Newton Street, had 30 minutes or so to kill, and happened upon the GMP Museum. It's very small but quite interesting, exhibits comprising mainly of the uniforms, equipment and regalia of yesteryear. Free entry, somewhere to spend an hour in central Manchester

The museum is only open on Tuesdays so keep that in mind to avoid disappointment. We were greeted by a gentleman when we walked in and he explained us what we can see and do. We roamed around the ground floor museum which houses interesting memorabilia dating back to olden times. We spent almost half an hour just talking to... More

Had a couple of hours to kill and saw the sign. Now wish I'd had another hour. There is the very slight air of a volunteer semi charitable set up and I think all the staff are unpaid and there because they love it, but the overall impact is of something much more detailed, well assembled and presented than you... Great place for all ages to learn something about the history of the police force. Interesting artefacts and stories as well as original building, including cells. Volunteer staff were very warm and friendly as well as knowledgeable. The man chatting to us, showed us a film and answered our questions long after the time for closing. Did not expect to... More

Very good museum with plenty to look at and read up on about GMP from centuries ago to the present day. We especially liked looking around the cells and court room. Got talking to one of the guides there and it turned out he is a retired officer who knew my uncle who is also a retired officer. Nice to... More

Open on a Tuesday. Well worth a visit with the children and really interesting for the adults too. Would highly recommend when in Manchester.

This has to be the best FREE venue in Manchester! Visited on Tuesday when open to public in general. It was very interesting and good knowledge was shown by volunteers who were eager to talk to us. You must visit the old old court room and the cells!

What a shame this is only open on certain days (Tuesday and Thursday I believe). It was like a step back in time - my hubby loved walking around and remembering how it was when he very first joined the Police Force. As it was school half term in Manchester there were loads of kids there, all armed with their... More
