This neo-Gothic masterpiece was designed by Alfred Waterhouse and completed in 1887. At the front main entrance sits a statue of the Roman Governor, Agricola, founder of the original fort of Mamuciam, from which the city began. The building dominates Albert Square.

This is an amazing building with stunning architecture. Such a shame that so little of it is available to visit and from late January 2018 to 2024 it will be closed to the public due to renovation work.

Helen, have a look for the Manchester walks web site in the Internet, next visit is due December 7th at 6.30 for the town hall.
