The Museum of Science and Industry sits in the heart of Manchester, the world's first industrial city. It houses the world's oldest surviving passenger railway station and the world's first railway warehouse from 1830, which are located at the end of the museum site. On a visit to the museum, you will see amazing objects and learn about the men and women whose ideas changed the world forever. Daily demonstrations bring the museum's world class collection of textile and industrial machinery to life. There are interactive exhibits to explore and a regular programme of changing exhibitions to enjoy.

Plenty of information and a good look into Manchester's past and it's influence on the world through the industrial revolution. Particularly enjoyed the part about trains however part of the museum was closed for some reason.

The areas that were open were of interest but on our recent visit a substantial amount of the museum was empty or closed. There is to be a revamp for 2018 but at the moment it lacks 'direction' and has the feeling of areas 'thrown together' under a 'Science and Industry' umbrella. However, it is free. Perhaps do not expect... More

The aviation and space hall was closed on the day I visited which was disppointing. The whole museum is spread over a large site which involves a lot of walking which is not always rewarded by finding anything of interest at the end. The old station was a prime example of this. Many of the earlier galleries seem to have... More

Did not spend much time here but was very impressed with the quality of the displays and the depth of the explanations by staff. The textiles tour/explanations were awesome so you really understood what went on to make the textiles. The small steam engine was very popular with the children and the larger engine were very interesting for everyone. Would... More

We have wanted to visit here for a while and finally got round to it. We had a great day, though we didn't get round all the exhibitions so will need to go back. The experiment room upstairs was a firm favourite with our 4 year old. The presentations where informative and entertaining and there seemed to be something going... More

I took my daughter here and we had a fantastic day (she 11 and me 50). Not enough time although we did spend a full day there. Very tiring, wish we had done it over 2 days (we live in Bolton so not too far to travel.). The food was a bit expensive and not great quality, but comparable to... More

A must do for kids while there on holiday. Plenty to get them excited about while learning. Parking is not that easy so if the kids are small go by train. Very enjoyable day.
