A great place to visit. This is not the usual NT property. Rooms have been left as they were found and not smartened up.

In sharp contrast to the NT's tendency to over-restore other stately homes, they decided to 'preserve' Calke Abbey more-or-less 'as is', making this (I believe) unique among their properties. The rich jumble of 'stuff' left by generations of the eccentric, collecting-mad owners is both fascinating...More

Having visited Kedleston Hall and finding ourselves with some time to spare we chanced upon Calke and were very happy to have done so. The restaurant was nice as was the home made food but the house was something else. It was amazing to wander...More

You will need at least half a day to see everything Calke Abbey has to offer. We only had chance to visit the house, this alone took us just over an hour. With around 80 rooms, packed with furniture and trinkets there's a lot to...More

There is so much to see and do here - one day isn't really enough! Highly recommend the guided talks - we did The Stables, Restoration and Garden walks / talks which really brought the place to life. We ran out of time to do...More

Absolutely love it here. Lots of open space for the kids to ride their bikes and even fly their kites. Really well set out and the house is definitely worth a look around. The walks are fantastic for the whole family and for the dogs....More

I think this is my favourite NT property to date due to the huge amount to see and the very different nature of the house. Much as I love the perfect grandeur of some stately homes, it was fascinating to see how many of the...More

Visited Calke Abbey with the wife on a day out. Not one of the best NT properties in my opinion. The House itself lacks a certain amount of TLC and seemed to contain an ENORMOUS number of stuffed animals!!!!!!! Not too PC today I think....More

I would be coming by taxi from derby centre, would a taxi be allowed to drop us off at the main hub area and collect us again from there later without being charged to enter?

Hi there, thanks for your message. We have a per-person park admission fee that all visitors will need to pay on arrival (National Trust members are free!) - but don't worry, your taxi driver won't need to pay park... More
