- Paul_H*Yalding, United Kingdom44 contributionsGood beer - nice bar foodFound this brew pub on our way to our hotel and stopped for a quick drink. Very good selection including beer made on the premises. Asian street food available was good and reasonably priced.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 October 2023
- JockinthetoonNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom267 contributionsGreat bar and very tasty food.Popped in for a couple of beers and decided to have lunch too. Great atmosphere and a great range of beers and other drinks too. Food was excellent, we had a mix of bao buns, katsu curry, prawn rice bowl, all of it was brilliant. Staff really lovely too. Would definitely go back.Visited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 November 2023

Food was available and looked very good but didn't try on this occasion. Loved the decor and buzz, lots of people around even though only Weds teatime. Had a lovely meal with friends at Grum which is leased by and next door to Cold Bath Brewery.
However a few things spoiled it; no menus on tables which were printed on the walls, it took 15 minutes to be served after we had arrived despite only 2 other customers being in the cafe and service was a bit slow too with one drink being forgotten.
The worst part was only the disabled toilet was in use with the gents and ladies being 'out of order'. I needed to change my baby and noticed there was no baby change in the disabled loo. I double checked this and was offered use of the cistern behind the toilet. The cistern was obviously not suitable as it was too small and I would have had trouble wearing a below the knee dress which would have had contact with the toilet that I would have had to have straddled. I politely asked if I could use a table or bench which the chef who was eating his lunch said was OK, only for the bar man however said I wasn't allowed as he would need to wipe the area down. I understand this is not the most hygienic thing to do on a bench but we did have a change mat, disposable nappy bags, milton sterilising wipes, the bench would only have needed a wipe down which would have taken seconds, and as there weren't many customers I didn't think this would offend anyone.
We ended up taking our baby to the friendly family orientated pub next door called Christes who were happy for us to use their facilities despite not ordering anything.
The food was good at Grum, but I certainly won't be going back. All disabled toilets should have baby changes as dads need to chang babies too.

We were not allowed in because the bar was full. Some people, however, were waiting at the bar for a table that was about to be vacated so we asked if we could do the same and wait at the bar. The manager refused as this as it made him feel uncomfortable in these current circumstances. We agreed with him although he had already done this once! But quite right, the bar was full so moved on. Later the same evening we called in for a nightcap, the bar was virtually empty and quiet. We sat a table that was far from covid safe, please see pictures below. Mr. Manager you need to stick to ALL of the guidelines to ensure the safety of your clientele not just some of them. Very disappointing!

We popped in late in the evening on a Thursday, after our long drive from the south. Helen was so warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. I had gin and the OH had a few beers - apparently made from Betty’s Tea Room bread . He slept very well 😉. A lovely vibe. Thanks Helen.

Went to Harrogate for the weekend and visited this pub twice in one day .
Lunchtime was busy but quiet enough to relax and enjoy a nice pint and something nice to eat .Night time was a lot more busy but still as enjoyable, mostly couples.
Staff in both occasions were very friendly, professional and knee what they were talking about when it came to the vast selection of real ales.
Highly recommended ,friendly pub.

As it was a lovely day, many customers chose to sit outside, which was a bonus as it meant that there were several available tables indoors. The decor here is a modernistic shabby chic, which is pleasing to the eye. The tables and chairs are deliberately mismatched and my only gripe is that they should test them all for practicality. At the first table we selected, two of the seats were by the wall and a perfect height. The two facing chairs however were very low in comparison and I can’t imagine anyone being comfortable with this layout.
Having moved to a pedestal table with bar stools we were much more comfortable and enjoyed excellent service and very good beers (their lager is particularly good).
The bar has a really nice atmosphere and the staff are friendly and very efficient.
The bottom line is that this is certainly now one of the best pubs in Harrogate.

Ok if you like beer but no idea about wine. Asked for pinot grigio. Served Sauvignon Blanc. When wine taken back they wouldn't exchange saying we'd asked for Sauvignon Blanc (no!)& couldn't because they're independent??
Just felt it was an inconvenient for them as they were cleaning up & wanting to get rid of their customers.
Will go elsewhere in future!

Spent a pleasant couple of hours one weekday recently while the Higher Authority did shopping in Harrogate. The Cold Bath is central to town opposite the theatre and 400m from the centre. A wide range of beers from blond to dark stout. You can get a flight of 3 thirds to taste different beers until you find one to settle on. Very easy going in the afternoon. Good WiFi as well. They also do a range of dips with pitta prepared on site. I had the cheese chilli. V hot, v tasty . Definitely worth a visit......if you don’t like shoe shopping that is.

We called here on our way out for a meal on a Friday night. It was busy but we managed to get a seat. The blonde beer was really good . The atmosphere was good but not so load that you couldn't have a conversation. I will be calling in again for an afternoon beer again.

Lovely bar with good choice of beers. Staff very friendly. Tried some of the Asian street food on offer and it was excellent, very tasty and decent size portions. Probably best to book it you are wanting food as it's very popular. There was live entertainment on the night we were there and he was very good. We will definitely return when we next visit Harrogate.

Fantastic bar! Been a few times over the last couple of years, saved my first post lockdown pint and wasn't disappointed. Great service, with less confusioning arrows on the floor than the supermarkets. Highly highly recommend and the porter is amazing!

Is any sport shown in the taproom? I know the cycling was shown there throughout the Yorkshire world champs, is cycling still shown regularly? Thanks.
