    Extremely strenuous
We took the Spinc upper lake blue walk. To say it was strenuous is an understatement. I almost turned back several times. Granted I'm not a "spring chicken" but I'm in good shape and workout 5 days a week. If you're physically able the views are breathtaking.

    Fantastic walks
Absolutely fantastic walks around the upper lake. We did the long one around the entire lake. There is such a diversity during the walk in landscapes/heights and difficulty that it keeps you entertained the whole way. Was worth the tired legs afterwards.

Amazing view, prepare for tough climb up
We wanted to see the upper lake from the mountain, and it was a bit tougher climb than we expected. Around 40 min and 2km climb from the visitor centre, most of the time quite steep. You must be physically quite able to do it. Even then we could see the upper lake only partially. Unfortunately we had no time to walk any further, I bet it would have been even more amazing if we did.

    Amazing view
We parked at the lower lake near the Monastic Site and hiked to the Upper Lake. Had terrible weather that cleared up beautifully right as we arrived at the Upper Lake. Led to an absolutely stunning view. Highly recommend.

    Wonderful experience with one exception....
A beautiful place which I would thoroughly recommend. Some amazing buildings and walks with a wonderful, picturesque backdrop of the local mountains. Sadly, and unnecessarily, the experience was rather spoiled by the disgraceful state of the toilets. I see that a number of past reviews have flagged up the disgusting condition of the toilet facilities - they stink, they are filthy, they are wet , they are in a state of disrepair and toilet bowls are blocked. Gross! An utter disgrace for a major international tourist site that must earn millions. Clearly no notice whatsoever is taken of reviews and OPW are not responding to the public's views. Refurbishment, if not a complete rebuild, is long overdue and can easily be afforded.

We love going to glendalough but the food served from the new food wagons is over priced , reheated muck nearly! You wouldn't pay those prices in temple bar for nice food! How is the owners getting away with it? I'd advice bringing your own food or going to lynhams it would cost less to feed a family or maybe the garage they have a lovely deli

My favourite part was walking around the Monastic sites, but there are so many interesting places to see! Lakes, waterfalls and mountains. Take a full day!

A must see part of Ireland. Yes it's busy as there are lots of visitors, but it's worth spending some time here.
Trails are well paved and maintained and the surroundings are truly beautiful.

If you want peace and to get away from it all this is the place to go. They have a modern visitors centre with so much historical information. A place to find yourself amongst such ancient history. Highly recommended

We walked the "little Spinc" blue trail. It's a about a mile from the lower car park to where the trail gets started, then up a fairly steep wide trail past the waterfall. The trail continues to climb quite a bit over the first two miles and then becomes more moderate as it turns to a boardwalk with great views of the lakes below. You want to be in good aerobic shape...our heartrates were 150-160 at times...but it's not a technical climb at all. The walk along the cliff continues...and it seemed like it would never end...but eventually you climb one last hillside and the path branches sharply to the left down through an amazing forest for a while and then finally onto an easy decline along a wide gravel path/road. A good hike for people in good shape wanting a good workout. Nothing scary or technical.
