I brought my two grandchildren here during the mid term break. We all very much enjoyed the visit. Tour lasts about 15 minutes and you can do a self guided tour for as long as you wish. I would have liked to stay longer, but...More

Take the guided tour of the first part. The jailer is brilliant! We were impressed with the amount of effort that has gone in to presenting the stories and how it gives you an indication of what the past was like. Highly recommended.

Recently booked and paid for 2 x families to visit and take part in the Halloween Spooky games. The Gaol itself is very well set up and maintained and I imagine a regular tour may be good. However, the kids were disappointed with their visit...More

Haven't done the tour yet but great cafe. It's in the original building so decor is atmospheric. Friendly staff can get busy for breakfast on Saturday mornings. Good range of menu and breakfast items were tasty. Nice cosy warm atmosphere.

An interesting diversion, quite family focussed and a bit quirky. It gives you some idea of the history of the town and it’s strategic importance in the past, including its links to deportation to the colonies. Also has a space where visitors can research genealogy...More

Great spot and the tour guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It's cheap and cheerful with a lovely cafe. I just found it too touristy and not that authentic.

An imaginative and interesting history of a building which has had an inhumane and cruel history. Well presented and balanced information presented through portable earpieces, static & audio-visual displays. Not sure 'enjoyable' is the right word to sum up the visit -clearly it is a...More
