This is a beautiful place, an inspiration to poets. Be sure to see the waterfall. It is magical. Well worth the short drive off the main road. Plenty of parking, a tea room and playground nearby.

We drove up to the lake late in the afternoon on a rainy day. It was fabulous. There is also a waterfall a short walk from the lake. It is said that the waterfall was the inspiration for W.B. Yeats' poem "The Stolen Child."

Driving along the quiet north shore toward Glencar waterfall, the lake is peaceful -- Ducks and swans and fishing boats. You look upward and can see how it lies at the U-shaped bottom of an ancient glacial valley.

Glencarr lake is lovely to walk around, take some photographs. There's a car park beside the waterfall which is just a short walk from the road. A nice day out.

I stopped by this lake in the lashing rain, and it was still a beautiful place to sit for a while. I will return in better weather.

A peaceful park, good view to the lake, and the waterfall is also worth a stop. But not a big program, max half an hour long "journay".
