I have been to Clonmacnoise over and over again. If you like history, just stand there looking over the river Shannon and go back through the centuries. It’s this sense of place that makes Clonmacnoise so special; if you long for great Feng shui just let it seep into your deepest self. You cannot manufacture a place like this but... More

We visited this site at the recommendation of the OPW employees at another site. We arrived at around 9:55 and they opened at 10 so perfect timing. For reference, it's about an hour from Galway. We were impressed by the amount of ruins to see here and the setting on the River Shannon is beautiful. We didn't know anything about... More

The centre was great- the video was very informative. We were lucky enough that a tour came through while we were there and they invited us to join the tour, which was very good. A beautiful, peaceful place and well worth the entry fee in my opinion.

The monastery of Clonmacnoise is a must see while cruising on the river shannon. No where else in europe you can find such an imposant and interesting site which is well preserved of an old monastery ruin from 9th century. Even when you are not into old ruins, crosses nor history – this site will overwhelm you with the spirit... More

If you are in the area a trip to Clonmacnoise is well worth the time and effort. Roads there are not great but not too bad. We spent a really interesting time wandering around this ancient and historical site. The 20 minute film in the auditorium was really interesting and informative. It really gives an insight into what was quite... More

Lived near here for 26 years and never made an effort to see this wonderful place, took me another 20 years before I finally made the effort with my wife and kids. This is a site that you just can't miss. It has lot of history on this spot. It gives you the insight of the Celtic Cross and the... More

Came upon this during our day of travel and well worth the visit. The visitors center has a film of the story of this monastery started by St. Ciarin and houses some gold and ancient celtic crosses. Outdoors you can view the ruins of the monastery and very old graves with Celtic crosses everywhere.

Ask if there are any bus tours coming in, and if so, can you tag along on the tour .... so much better going with a guide ! On the OPW Heritage card (this card has to be the bargain of the year !). I've been about 4 times, and I learn something new every time ! Special place !
