This is not a tourist destination. Ireland is full of green hills, lovely outlooks, and old churches. Unless your a historian these mounds might seem a little dull. However take the time to walk slowly around this area and absorb the history of the area,...More

Magical site. Free parking and a nice cafe nearby. Recommend spending some time here taking in the views especially at sunrise or sunset.

Although it was pouring rain on the day we went to Hill of Tara and New Grange, Mary made the tour so informational and engaging, we hardly noticed. She is a pro, and cares that her customers have a great tour. She even waited for...More

This was an interesting site but I am not sure I would recommend it as a destination on its own. There was not much to see but mounds of grass. It was part of a bus tour, but the site was far less interesting than...More

One of the places I was most looking forward to in Ireland did not disappoint. An amazing piece of ancient history and a great taste of the more mystical revisions of this country.

For a place lauded for its historical and spiritual significance, this was a disappointment. Compared to Newgrange and Knowth, Tara appears neglected by OPW. Yes, it is free, the views are magnificent and we enjoyed the ramble through the mounds. However, it is not well...More

This was our last sacred site to visit at the end of a magical tour of the Emerald Isle and I have to say we were somewhat disappointed as it seems as if the site has lost some f it’s magic. Clearly the stone is...More

A short walk takes you up a hillside,by an old church and graveyard to the top of the hill where you can walk around and feel the spirit of ancient Ireland. The site includes the oldest Celtic cross in Ireland, the Tomb of theNine Hostages and...More

I would not suggest going by bus. If you like history I suggest you go to the Archeology Museum and the Art Museum. You can do both in a day, they are around the corner from each other in downtown.

Newgrange got very busy, I would recommend having an advanced reservation or arriving for opening. As well, they only allow so many people through a day and you must take their bus up to the site and their tour of the site... More
