Stunning coastal drive

Worth doing this drive from Mulranney to Achill. Stunning scenery. Lots of places to pull in and appreciate the beauty of the west of Ireland

We took a day trip out to Mulranney and continued onto Achill. My heart was in my mouth.....they scenery is stunning it was a bright showery day and quiet windy. The Atlantic really put on a spectacular show for us. we also drove the coastal route to Achill beag where Spanish Armada ships foundered this cliff top route is spectacular... More

The drive around Achill is one of the nicest coastal drives I have ever been on. The sea was calm, yet the big breakers were very impressive. Keel beach was lovely to walk on.

So taken by the experience we returned the following day to absorb the wonders of nature. The cliff face sweeping seaward was breathtaking the changing colour of the sea, beautiful little beaches ,the roaming sheep taking exception to our presence in their habitat all added to the visit.

Beautiful views of Achill, from the Bridge to Keem! Drive along a mountain road, inches away from brightly colored sheep.

I have been fortunate enough to drive much of Ireland's Wild Atlantic Way, and Achill Island is right up there with the Dingle Peninsula & Connemara for scenic driving.
