St Peters Church is on the Main Street in Drogheda. A very imposing building from the outside and inside. Most visitors go there to see the head of Oliver Plunket which is kept in a glass box. His body (bones) I believe are at Downside Abbey. You have a complete 360° degree view of the head which is on a... More

You shouldn't miss a visit to this beautiful Catholic church which boasts housing Sir Oliver Plunkett's head. I didn't want to go in because of that my everyone in my group wanted to go so I went along. I am SO pleased that I did visit this church, as it was by far the most elaborate I had seen in... More

Oldest church in Drogheda, the first class relic of a saint (head) is preserved there. Free entrance, most of the locals stays in front of the door of the church and have a nice sit there.

What a beautiful structure. The stain glass windows are remarkable. I don't remember the whole story but I guess there was a Saint Oliver who was beheaded for some reason or other and it may sound a bit gruesome was is head is shown in one part of the church and his bones in another

The church is fairly interesting on it's own, but the history behind it, with it's dealings with Cromwell, and then the door and head from the result of Plunkett's hanging, quartering, burning etc, make this a must see. To see the head of a martyr beside the pulpit makes for riveting sermons!

This is a beautiful 18th c Roman Catholic church that makes you feel quite humble. The interior is glorious with vaulted arches and amazing stained glass. While not a fan of relics of saints, this church houses the head and other bones as relics of St. Oliver Plunkett if you are interested. This church is a stunning place of inspiration... More

From the airport, it was about a 20 minute drive to Drogheda, a very sweet town. St. Peter's Church is incredibly beautiful. It has a shrine containing the head of St. Oliver Plunkett, who was a bishop and was martyred (hanged, drawn and quartered) for his Catholic faith. Powerful moments!

This Chapel is beautiful and full of history. A highly sought after tourist attraction in Co Louth the steps are always taken up with tourists all year round and are a meeting point for many of the local youths but this does not take away from the breathtaking views inside the Church.

What can one say about a Roman Catholic church other than this one has the notable relics of saint Oliver Plunkett including his skull and other bones. Like most places of worship the silent sanctuary from the city outside the door is always a treat to gather your thoughts no matter what your beliefs.
