Fabulous tour and information on the Millmount and the major events that have taken place in Drogheda.over the years including facts about the Viking boat found in the Boyne river within sight of the Millmount, the attack and subsequent slaughter by Cromwell and the Battle of the Boyne to name but a few. Our guide walked us around the tower... More

A group of 40 of us descended on Mortello Tower - wonderful views from the top floor. Margaret tried to fit in so much in a short time-really informative and interesting. The memorabilia in both the tower and Museum brought us back in time-to view 200yr old banners in almost perfect condition was a pleasure. All this is located on... More

The views from the martello tower are superb and you really get a feeling for why Drogheda was such a strategic site in far-away times. Our guide, Margaret (I think) was so enthusiastic about her city and gave us a fascinating insight into its past. Wish we'd gone to this tower and its museum first as it helped us understand... This was my second visit to Millmount Museum. My first was a few years ago. The museum consists of 3 floors full of artifacts, historical photos and documented community stories about times past. Most interesting especially for those who grew up in Drogheda. Our guide Bruno, I can not praise enough. He was brilliant, very knowledgeable and made our tour... More

This was a lovely way to spend 2 hours on a sunny afternoon in Drogheda. Taking in the view from the top of the tower was a great way to get my bearings in a town I had yet to explore. Kevin is a great historian with heaps of book recommendations- he should write his own!

We knew nothing about this museum before we decided to climb the 67 steps to the group of 17th and 18th century English barracks where the three-floor museum is located. For the very nominal admission fee, avery knowledgeable guide personally explained two of the museum's rooms, and then left us to wander through the three floors ourselves. The museum houses... Quirky museum with a discombobulated assortment of antique guild flags (gorgeously painted), mineral samples, Drogheda railway exhibits, Cromwellian siege of the area in 1690, antique kitchens, a leather boat, Neolithic items and the 1916 Easter Rising info information. Two of the staff were new but eager to give information. The tour of the tower and all its history, with historic... More

When we arrived at the museum office, we explained that we only had a short time to visit (we had to catch a train). They were able to give us a great, admittedly truncated, tour of the tower. Our guide packed in so much info. The views are great. If you are in the area (like visiting Bru Na Boinne)... More

This tower & museum is set high on a hill just (about 1/2 a mile)outside the city..steeped in history, proudly shared by enthusiastic staff..you are taken up to the parapets, then inside the tower(once used as a mill) where you view various points of interest & told stories dating back to Oliver Cromwell among others. The museum holds many items of interest..uniforms,arms ,a...
